These are some of my first attempts at post processing, comments and tips would be much appreciated so I can see if I over did some a bit, mostly tried to make them look lomo, gritty black and white, cross processed or gritty color.

1. Service manual found in an old workshop

2. Drain Pose

3. Asylum Cell

4. Switch at asylum

5. Broken sink and plastic chair at an old ship yard

6. Switch box near old dock

7. Old disused crane

8. Signs at the shipyard

9. Reflections on the floor of the turbine hall at the shipyard

10. Part of the machines in the turbine hall

11. More machines in the turbine hall

12. Close up of the other side of the machine in 11

13. Lonely chair in machining room

14. One of the lathes in the machining room

15. Close up of a different lathe

16. Gauge and valves on an old pressure tank

17. Old sandstone guard house at an old prison

18. Smashed old beacon at the old prison

19. WWII era toilet block at the old shipyards

20. Frangipanis in front of an old broken chimney

Awesome pics! The high contrast looks good on the machinery. Brings out the detail nicely.

Only complaint is that the size of the pics made em take a while to load on the crappy computers at my job

Cheers for the comments guys and sorry about the size, didn't check what size they were on flickr, just linked it there then realized that it was to the large size will work on more, but might tone down the high contrast a tad

Cheers

Number two just screams Firestarter.

I enjoyed all of these except #8. The effects were subtle enough to not detract from the photo, or were properly matched with the photo. #8 was just over the top with color saturation, though.

for first attempts at processing you did a good job. I would watch the color on some of your shots (8, 14, and 17)...I don't mind amping up the color sat. but you will run into many who do. Other than that the grittiness and effects you were using worked with the subject materials nicely.

I wasn't really happy with no.8, it was over exposed to start with, and as soon as I played with it, it just went a bit over board.

Cheers to all the comments, will take the advise for the next ones

I'm particularly fond of #5. I think you have a lot of style. Its a really fine line to walk between getting something stylized, and overdoing it. Well done.

Personally I find them way too oversaturated, which to me comes across as a crutch. I am also frustrated by the softness.

Aside: I see that Nomeus finally got banned again, though I am sure he is already back.

Not sure if people enjoy this type of photography, but the pics are either over-sharpened, or over-saturated. I'm using a wide screen on my computer, and it's still too much for me.

Dpeneding on what crowd you're reaching out to, if it's the general public you want, then the above mentioned details need to be toned way down.

I do alot of macro and tight-focus stuff with my photography, so I know what your intentions are. I just won't go for the over detail stuff.

Overall, they're good. ... And that's my critique for today.

Going where others can't...

A bit high contrast and over saturated with some, my advice is to just be a little more careful with contrast because it seems that you are losing some detail in a few of the pictures. (1,2,10,11) you'll see the white stuff blow out pretty bad, i guess that's the main thing i noticed, and i myself am guilty of a bit high contrast too here and there to be honest with you, otherwise it seems like you have some great shots so keep it up.

#5 is amazing. I can't really think of anything other than how much I like that one.

Thanks once again for the comments guys. Will tone down the highlights and sharpness a little. Was trying to add a bit of the lomo effect (crappy Russian camera, nice effects, but very blown highlights) but probably took it a little too far. Personally I liked the result I got in #5,but will take the comments on overdoing the rest on board for my next attempts.

Cheers all
