| | Danvers State Hospital rumors? < on 3/16/2009 11:32 PM >
| | | I'm not sure where to put this... Seeing as how I'm a rookie looking for information on a fairly popular location that everyone is probably sick of talking about - I decided to post it here There's so much information about Danvers, but I still haven't found what I'm looking for. So far I've only found information about when the building was built and when it closed. What I'm looking for are bad rumors about the place. I was in MA a couple weekends ago and a few people who live near the location were telling me about all these bad things that happened in the hospital to the patients, crazy doctors, etc. I'm not sure if the rumors are true or not, but I was just wondering if anyone had heard such things before. If so please tell me more! I'm really looking for more interesting facts on Danvers rather than "Oh, it was built this year by this person, it has x amount of rooms, it had x amount of people.."

| | | Have you ever tried contacting the spirit world and asking them, via ye olde Párker Siblings and Company Interdimensional Soothsayer Apparatus? Really though, you'll find people saying that every hospital you visit was staffed by madmen and is haunted.

| | | The only thing really bad that happened there was overcrowding. Danvers was staffed by perfectly normal people. If you check the website, you can find a 3 page interview with one of the guys that worked there. The Danvers site has all of the information you are wanting. Look there.

That's OK; none of the actors in it did either. Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

Both of his parents were institutionalized at the Butler Hospital in RI, as well. I wonder what influences that had?

| | | That sort of thing was pretty much par for the course at most state hospitals, though. They were all understaffed and overbooked, and mental health treatments were pretty gruesome for a while. I don't think it was just Danvers. I've heard the same about Weston (near me) and many other state hospitals.

wow.. I really need to give that a proper reading when I'm more clear of mind; the drug (Zyprexa/Olanzapine) described in the first part was actually prescribed to me for a while. it's not really scary; it makes you sleep 16 hours a day and tired the rest of the time. ;_)

Yeah, that's the drug that fucked 7 years of my life up. Eight years if you counted the year it took to clear my head and during that time destroy every bit of my "good reputation" I had whilst on the drug. Ten year if you consider I'm still not "okay". And a Lifetime if you consider all of the missed opportunities and relationships it stole from me. But no, it's not a "scary drug" it's a drug that limits the potential of your consciousness. If you're not Schizo it will cause you to lose touch with reality, making you delusional, paranoid, and totally submissive. The insatiable hunger, weight gain, sleeping problems, and slowing of your metabolism are all the pleasant side effects.

ya um this is definitely not something the docs should put people on unless they have active psychosis. Especially not a child!! I have also seen it used to treat bipolar but with mixed results in my experience..it tends to only work "well" with severe cases of a dual diagnosis of bipolar & drug addiction with repeated and severe episodes of mania. In the last 5 or so years current drug of choice has shifted from zyprexa to risperdal (at least in the northeast) in cases where a stronger drug like clozaril is not needed/desired. (and dont even get me started on clozaril!)
