i think the great thing about these shots is they dont have the over processed feel about them where the colours make it clear there is nothing natural about the final product.
these have a nice clean shot feel about them.. i like them.

Nope, the only thing making these feel unnatural is the giant halo around the structure in number 2. ;)

I have a 40d and I do HDR. So what? Having high dynamic range in an image adds a nice touch, especially when the image appear as though it hasn't been altered.

I just didn't get what you meant by your comment. HDR images are great for capturing architectural details.

Thanks. I'm not sure why the sky came out so gloomy, I will try to reprocess these and play more with tone mapping. I'm starting to really get into HDR after seeing some great shots on these forum. Also just picked up a new lens! very excited to test it this weekend.
Here is the original straight from the camera base shot at (0) with clear sky. However, difficult to see any details on the structure.

If you have $35 dollars to burn, pick up a copy of Jack Howards "Practical HDR". It gives some great step by step tips, from the basics to some more advanced techniques.

A good trick to try when using HDR is spending some time in Photoshop after the conversion. Have a few layers of an underexposed, normal, and overexposed image with the HDR being the 4th layer and on top. Go through and erase parts where you don't want the HDR to be as powerful. For example if you want to emphasize the sky a bit, set your eraser to about 50% and go over the sky on the HDR layer, showing the underexposed layer which has a more powerful sky. It also helps you play with the borders a bit.

Thanks, will try your method. Yes, this is Riverside. I was trying to make my way into Freedom. No luck on that day...They started a construction on weekends right near the tracks on 72nd.

| | | | I think these are great for your early attempts. Honestly, I'd call them a success rather than an attempt; when you look at all the HDR out there, these are much more realistic than I'm used to seeing.
Keep trying, and I'd recommend using more than 3 exposures. I've had great luck with 5+, and I usually avoid full stops. The algorithm does a fairly good job with exposures, and I find that you don't always need a -2, 0, +2 set.
