I can't decide, do you like the horizontal or vertical shot better?

The way the fence kind of recedes in the horizontal shot gives a nice semi-diagonal line that does it for me.

100% of respondents so far say "horizontal", so you know it must be right.

I say vertical, but I would prefer it with the vignetting removed.

I'd have to say horizontal, but mainly because I don't really like how you cropped the vertical one.

This might help.

Pay particular attention to the term "power point."

I prefer the vertical one. I get a sense of entry from it, invitation almost. I agree with racetraitor, though. In the second photo that post begs to be on the left rule of thirds line, which would but the bright clouds on or right new an intersection.

(i like the vignetting. Might try a picnik lomo-ish filter)

Horizontal because there's already too much sky--why would you want more blah clouds? They don't add anything but a *little* atmosphere. All there interest is on the ground and the post.

Horizontal because the post is too centered, and there is way too much sky in the vertical one.

Horizontal all the way...

In the vert the cropping of the thing on the left (mattress? not sure) leaves something to be desired I like being able to see almost all of it in the horiz shot, and I felt the grass in the foreground was distracting from the overall shot.

Thanks for the input! After thinking about it more, the horizontal one is the winner for me too.

The vignetting wasn't done in post-processing (I didn't post-process at all, these are straight film scans). I was using my Canon TX with a horridawful no-name zoom lens that vignettes whenever I shoot at 30mm or less, lol.

I don't think the composition of either work very well. I guess the bigger issue (at least for me) is how the subject matter just isn't all that interesting to begin with. I'm just not really feeling what you're trying to show in these.
