"A white elephant is a valuable possession which its owner cannot dispose of and whose cost (particularly cost of upkeep) exceeds its usefulness."
http://en.wikipedi...iki/White_Elephant

In 1914 the city of Cincinnati began planning to build a subway system. In 1920, they drained a canal and built a subway in it's place, but....oops....they ran out of money by 1927. The plans for a 16 mile loop was abandoned, leaving 2 miles of underground tunnels and 4 underground stations hidden beneath the city streets. That's just a brief history, for more specific details check out the new article on the front page of www.queencitydisco.com

Ever since I got into photography/exploring, I've dreamed of seeing the abandoned subway. A year ago Ram23 and I made up grand plans for getting into the system which now houses a water main and since 9/11 has been sealed tight. Our dreams were cut short when we realized that just about every entrance was still tightly sealed and would require some extensive work.

They do tours occasionally, but in the past they have not allowed anyone to take photographs down there on the tours. This previous weekend I had the chance to take part in a tour and cameras were allowed!

Here are the photographs:

After the tour, IlDuce and I hit up some other abandoned sections:

:: Twelve ::

The gate in 12 leads to a 400 ft. tunnel that dead ends and is often used by the homeless who seek shelter.

If you want to see more pictures from the Cincinnati Subway or find out more about it's history, check out the front page article on www.queencitydisco.com

Thanks for viewing, it's been awhile since I posted a photo thread.

nice pics, the graff would suggest that someone at one point got past the "seal"

And when you finally disappear, We'll just say you were never here.

Well, the tunnels have been there since 1927 so people have been able to get in time from time. Even today entrances can be found. The past few years we've been trying though...it's always been sealed tight.

Yeah, the entrances were all sealed after September 11, 2001. Quite sad, but they do carry main water lines and fiber optics...

I tried getting in here hard last year to no avail. sealed up securely from every concevable entry point. I'd love to get into that system.
