| | | | | German tank found... < on 3/9/2009 11:59 AM >
| | | At http://www.dumpert...nden_een_tank.html I found a video of a German tank being uncovered from some forest soil. What I understand from the comments is that the T34 was a Russian tank, probably taken by the Germans, repainted with their own marks and used to fight it's former owners. I find it amazing this still rolls. Tijmen

This actually happened quite frequently. Most of the time if the Russians were under attack they would destroy the tank so it was no longer in working order just to prevent the Germans from ceasing it and using it against them. Taking their own life in the process. There was a discovery show on pretty recently where they pulled one out of a deep river, they were refurbing it.

| | | Only thing I wonder about: would the Germans and Russians have used the same size barrel, so they were compatible "bullet"-wise? (I'm not so into bullet terminology)? I understand the barrel is the single most important point on a tank and it is out of use for a long time if it gets damaged ... or is this overshot? Tijmen

No they weren't compatible but there was plenty of captured ammo around to use. The Germans were famous on using captured equipment for there own advantage, they did it with many things.
A 1000 days of sorrow can disapear in a split second, it takes only one person to make it happen. |
