Went back today and got stopped just short of my goal! The water was too high for me to navigate without rubber boots, and was cold as balls!

Managed to scramble up into the CMP (after several failed attempts) and realized that I have NO ninja skills! and these damned metal pipes are SLIPPERY! no one ever tells you that till you nearly fall into some nasty pipe water! Because of it being so slick and me not having rubber boots I had to straddle the water and duck-walk the rest of the trip

Looking back at the large chamber from before

This little side line was dumping water into the main line making for a tricky get-around what with me duck-walking and that portion of the pipe being so slick.

Thought this was graffiti but when I got there it seems more like it was meant to be there (and it was)

some build-up on the bottom of the drain

Found a rickety old ladder leading up to a wet side line and a solid manhole cover.

There was an interesting side line coming in with big, scary bolts coming through the walls. Turns out it was a manhole chamber! Solid lid and a leak...

The pipe suddenly shrinks and it is apparent there is concrete on the outside of the line.

Huh, you don't say....

this narrower section of pipe has several other small pipes hanging from the ceiling and poking up from the floor

Squat little side pipe

This section of line looks really old, there is rust on the walls, and the seams are rusted and broken. it also has rocks ALL OVER the bottom, no clue where they came from, but some are fairly large.

This is where I was foiled! the water got deep and the rocks ran out, I wasn't about to walk through that water without rubber boots so I was forced to turn back. Just outside the range of the flash, about 20 feet from here was my goal for today: a second chamber with light coming in from above, a ladder, several side-lines, and a small slide (YAY! a new feature!)

Nice pics there. Those RMP's are a lot of fun, hey?

Awesome first time drain, bring some boots next time and show us the rest of the place!

Personally, I espouse minimalism whenever at all possible - a camera, tripod, and two lights. The camera and tripod have their own lightweight bags with shoulder straps. It makes draining considerably less tiring, especially when things get long and/or small.

I hardly bother with boots or waders weather/temperature is pretty constant year round in Texas underground, and I am not especially scared of "dirty" water seeing as we have mostly separate systems here.

Just like with Ladies - Endurance matters.

I beat you in the minimalism department. I just bring Headlamp, water bottle, Batteries, and sometimes a point and shoot.

it was cold enough to wear a coat with cargo pockets so what I ACTUALLY took was:

Flashlight / batteries
Camera
Laser Pointer
and gloves

so pretty minimalistic on this one

To all the drainers out there, I'm throwing together what I'm calling a Drain Bag. Obviously its going to be my UE gear. So far I have:

Flashlight
Spare shoes
.................>Don't have waders
Spare socks
Hat
Work Gloves
Camera

So what other things have you found useful while draining?

Also: I know that 'when it rains, no drains' but what has been your experience with snow melt-water?

I rarely drained (dont do it anymore) but I had a bit heavier list...

2x pairs of socks (preferably wool as they stay warmer when wet
1x leather work gloves
1x latex gloves (just in case things get nasty)
small first aid kit (enough to treat fairly serious wounds none the less...I can get a list if people want...)
Camera
Tripod
Low intensity LED light
High Intensity LED Light (160 lumen surefire)
10x glowsticks
2x fluorescent chalk for marking paths
2x water bottles
4x granola bars (snackage)
Waterproof pad and pen

bout it really...lol still fits in a small bag too...

Went back today with a buddy and finished this bad-boy off!

Tried out some 'po-man's waders, Trash bags and rubber bands

After donning our trash bag waders we stepped into the flooded part of the drain and quickly realized it is MUCH deeper that I had thought and COLD as all get-out

They didn't work surprise, surprise lol

Looking back down the small slide at the end of the flooded section of tunnel

This chamber is the only grated manhole in the whole line

Turning around we realised that we had come (all too soon) to the infall of the drain, and as we started down the rectangular section of the drain we heard a god-awful noise that sounded like the whole drain was moaning

As we headed towards the infall of the drain we noted some interesting rust formations

SUCCESS finished off the drain and came out on the other side of the highway! Turns out the horrible sound we heard was a tractor-trailer passing overhead!

Wow, this drain looks spectacular! I've never been "draining" per see, unless you count walking 10' into a pipe only to be met by what looked like a piece of chain link fence blocking it off. Didn't feel like messing with the "hobo door", so I left it alone.

Was this one of the drains near WSU you've mentioned?
