there's a burned out take out food place and i'm wondering if it's safe to go in. i don't know if it's sound but i do know it's abandond and it looks like it may be interesting. the question is if burned out buildings should generally be avoided

Thats kind of like asking if it's safe to run across a road. each road would be different, as would each burnt out building. You'd really need to make the judgement yourself by taking a closer look. How badly burned was the place ? you could always get some pics of it from outside and post them to get some people's opinions based upon that...

It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.

I've walked through burned out buildings before with no trouble, but then, I haven't walked through the one you are talking about. And as Jester so rightly pointed out, each one is different.

Your best bet is to avoid stairs, and to walk around with a stick or metal rod, poking the floor in front of you. Or walk around kicking the floor in front of you with your heal, like firemen do.

In general, nobody hear will ever be able to vouch for your personal safety as an explorer. Your compedance is usually a sure bet as to how long you'll live, but other than that, exploring is just plain dangerous anyway. So I always go by this "mantra": If it looks unsafe, think about whether whatever it is you will get to see inside will make it worth taking the risk.

Don't be tempted to enter because it's a chance to explore. Just exploring for the sake of exploring is really dumb - save your enthusiasm until you find a place that you would be willing to take risks to check out.

Dear Chasey Lain, I wrote to explain, I'm your biggest fan, I just wanted to ask; Could I eat your ass? Write back as soon as you can.

Heh, a house a block away was totally gutted by fire last night. I'll so be in there in a few days.

I've explored a burned house once, that being my last one too.
My habit of getting migrane attacks from strong scents didn't like the place at all. Burned paint, plastic, wood, metal and fabric certainly mixed one great mess of different scents. Not good...

Other than that it was quite safe, just as long as I didn't try to enter the second floor.

But like it's stated before...every place is different.

Kimmo, you're right about the effect of scents. Just imagining the smell of burning plastic made my head throb.
In the old days, your TV was more likely than not to "burn out" and that smell would fill the whole house.
