Is this real? Or is it fake?
| | | HDR?? < on 12/20/2008 6:56 AM >
| | | Ive seen people posting HDRs. From what i can tell they play with the colors to bring out certain elements/color/feelings from the photo. I know it varys from editing program to another but how is it done? Some newbs, FNG's, and boots (myself) would greatly appreciate a basic rundown.

How'd we get here, and how are we getting out of here?!

| | | Google helps a lot, but let me give you a quick rundown. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, it is done by taking a series of exposures to create one expose that has a higher range than would otherwise be possible. The heavily saturated colors come from this too, but HDR's don't have to have colors like that. Once the images come out of a camera they require a piece of software to make them merge (Photomatix, Photoshop, etc)!

| | | I'm just going to but in and drop a line for Photomatix. I could never figure out why my HDR's looked like shit, despite me following all the tutorials line for line. Then I tried using Photomatix instead of Photoshop, and with the same exact images, I was able to get HDR's that looked a hundred times better. Also, be careful with how much you saturate the colors. Try to make it still look like a photo, and not a cartoon. HDR's aren't necessary a lot of times, try and only use it when you need to.

| | | ^mainly cause photomatix was build mostly around the idea of HDr photography. However, i've found even using it as something similar to photoshop by using a single RAW image works well too, not just for HDR specific shots. btw, if you plan on buying it from the photomatix site, use the code "STUCKINCUSTOMS" to get i think 15% off or you could simply torrent it... which i would never condone...
