| | | heh, she was cold in #5. goosebumps. my fave would be number 2...rather haunting and bleak. the first shot is pretty good as well, you got some nice pastiness in her skin with your processing. i haven't done any UE model photography, so i'm probably not the most helpful in my critiques, but i know what i like.

| | | its alright, thanks all the same! it was freeezing cold that day, i felt so bad for her, i was freezing myself so i can only imagine how awful it was for her, but she pulled through it and if anything it might have added to some of the pictures... thats what i like to think at least hahaha

Definitely #5 & #2, but for me #5 all the way, the goosebumps really make that shot interesting. as well as your selective desat. [last edit 12/10/2008 6:07 AM by mentok - edited 1 times]

| | | compositionally these are all pretty spot on, but theres something missing, imo. i'm really not feeling any emotion. i couldnt even guess as to what the gist was. good shots otherwise though, better than i could do.

| | | Decent job, but something about the first one was a little off-putting for me. I don't know if it's the shape of the dress, or where you crop the photo on the bottom, but her shape looks kind of awkward.

| | | For me, 2 and 4 stood out the most. For 2, I think it was a sort of strange, post-apocalyptic kinda thing going on in it that really caught my attention. In 4, it was the almost ghost-like quality to it. A hint of something unexpected. Like msgsudz, I haven't done any model photography in UE... actually, none anywhere per se. But when I look at the use of people in UE photography, it always works better for me if they're part of the mood of the place. Trying to make it a beauty shoot, or a fashion magazine, or Victoria Secret catalog doesn't seem to work for me so much as the model's positioning and dress within the picture in such a way as to lend to the overall mood of the environment. She has to be PART of the picture, not the REASON. This explains my choices from your set. My two cents.

| | | Out of all these new shots I like #4 the best although I would have cropped it differently and the model fades into the shadows a bit much. Good improvement on some of the things we talked about with the lines and posing. I do agree with the others in that it’s hard to determine what or if you were trying to tell a story or gather the meaning of the shot beyond a woman in an abandonment freezing her ass off. (Kudos to her for that!) Keep it up you are improving! Maybe something that will help when you are preparing for a shoot is to think about what you are trying to say with the shots and determine a good way to capture that in the image. For instance if you wanted her to portray a ghost or memory in the abandonment have her dress in the period the building was active and take two shots: One with the room/area without the model and one with the model in the shot. Layer the shots in PS and put a transparency to the layer with the model to give her a ghosted effect. When I looked over these shots that’s the only thing I could figure out as a storyline that goes with it so used that as an example. The other story that came to mind is a homeless person and photojournalistic style but the shots and model so doesn’t look like that. Out of curiosity why do you keep hiding the models face? Were you trying to make her anonymous?

| | | Today or tomorrow i will work on posting the whole set together as it stands now, there is a lottttttt missing and its by no means complete, but i think where i'm going is trying to take people to a time in their lives where maybe they can almost relate to her.. its a mixture of these pictures along with a bunch more from the black and white in that one room that i posted. As said I'm not entirely sure exactly where i'm heading with this, but i figured it could also be a fun more interesting way to improve. Also yeah i tend to hide her face a lot, i don't like to just give everything away i suppose, by hiding her face it adds a little more mystery i suppose..

| | | my biggest critique would be in #1, in most cases you shouldn't cut off body parts at their joints (ie; wrist) because it looks like she has a stump for an arm. i would maybe have had her place her hand slightly forward on the doorframe or something? #4 is well done, and #5 is interesting but i think needs a different crop. just my thoughts.

| | | I know they are supposed to be dark, but I think that 2 and 4 are a little too underexposed. Otherwise, pretty nice

| | | I like them, but I agree with the comment about the lack of emotion. IMO, if there's going to be a lack of emotion, there should be more empty space. Make the subject off to the side.
Then again I don't know much about this! & I like the one that's through the hole in the wall!

| | | I love #2. I think there's tons of emotion there. #4 is also good but would work better imho if the model was better lit - maybe even in Photoshop. Generally I think it's difficult to convey emotion if you hide the whole face. Very nice overall!
