Trigers don't jump they repent

Hey all, at the risk of getting a nice padlock on my thread faster than anyone else, I just wanted to say that you should'nt be so hard on the guy. We all got into this hobby(?) because we're a little subversive. We don't like people telling us where we can go to have their idea of fun. We do things a little differently. He admitted to doing the tags before he knew the ethics involved and says he will not do so anymore.Given the fact that he and his group are into parkour, swordfighting, etc and not 'bangin or cooking meth, bustin' caps in oneanother's ass or whatnot, he can't be too bad. Let the scathing remarks begin....

I recommend just letting the issue (non-issue?) drop. It doesn't seem like an important topic for conversation -- as is the case for all UE hobbyists, as they contribute photos, stories & trips over time their reputations will take care of themselves.

As a Japanese sword collector, the sword fighting you guys do sounds pretty scary. Do you follow a specific martial art, or do you beat each other with bokken in your backyard?

To draw a parallel, compare urban exploration to Ferrari enthusiasts.

Urban explorers are protective of their locations.
Ferrari owners are protective of their cars.

Sometimes people do bad things to urban locations. Urban explorers become upset.
Sometimes people do bad things to Ferrari's. Ferrari owners become upset.

The infamous "Gibby" case

Video of the dastardly deed
http://videos.stre...ari-and_170989.htm

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — A Niagara- on-the-Lake man was charged Thursday with urinating on a Ferrari in a mall parking lot here — the crime posted on YouTube, Niagara Regional Police said.

Joshua “Gibby” Gifford, 19, was charged with public urination, punishable by a fine of $365. Police said they became aware of the YouTube video, which was created by at least three men at the Pen Centre parking lot. It was initially posted Tuesday and by early Thursday evening it had more than 16,000 hits.

Police said the video shows a dark, deserted parking lot, where someone identifying himself as “Gibby” approaches the Ferrari 360 Spider and announces he is going to “pee on a Ferrari” before doing so.

The video was shot at 2:46 a. m. and likely in the last week, police said. After the video was posted on the Internet, a “chat room” for Ferrari owners became aware of it, triggering a furor, including threats against Gifford, police said.

The Ferrari owners posted his address, employers information and even threatened to attend a wedding that Mr. Gifford was going to be attending. They were going to do this out of "concern for humanity".

What is my point?

We don't need to have an unwritten code that we follow to know the difference between legal and illegal or common sense and stupidity. It applies to all hobbies.

Most Geocachers don't rob caches.
Most campers clean up after their campsite.
Most site-seeing tourists don't leave their initials on the mountains.

We don't need to even use the dreaded "E" word. You either get it or you don't.

Edit: That being said, all things blow over in due time and people forgive (possibly forget).

The previous thread was locked for a reason. Do not try to circumvent the lock again, it is NOT helping at all.

Let it go. The more you remind people the longer it will take for them to get over it.

CASE CLOSED.
