| | underneath the 101? (and trains!) < on 11/18/2008 6:12 AM >
| | | I went exploring up and down the tracks tonight, along the LA river, near the 101. At one point on the tracks there is a place where you can get up underneath the structure of the 101... though it was heavily infested with bird droppings and I didn't go in due to not having a respirator with me (I'll make a return with one). Anyone else been in there? Looks like tagger, junky and homeless types may have been at various times. Was vacant, though, from what I could see tonight. As an added bonus, an Amtrak train came by not 6 feet away from my concealed spot at 8:35pm; as they are on a schedule it stands to reason a visitor could get some really sweet pictures from a minimum safe (concealed) distance were they to be there at that particular time. | | | MODS: Is the first pic considered an "entrance post"? Thought you couldn't post info about how to gain entrance. There's only a few spots that the UP tracks cross under the 101. -R

| | | I went back with a respirator and took a close look. It turns out the underneath does not go very far; it gets really tight up towards the top and you can't get much further than what you can see in the photos above. there is some abandoned bedding up there; as well as rodents; as well as bird feces infestations; as well as a persistent particulate cloud. definitely not worth the lung health risks. i heard quite a bit of scurrying in the 5 or so minutes i tried to set up a tripod shot; then just gave up due to poor lighting and cramped spaces.
