| | Toys R Us - Garden Grove, CA < on 11/14/2008 12:00 AM >
| | | Hey guys, My first thread! There's an abandoned Toys R Us practically across the street from my house. I can remember going there as a kid; I know it's been closed and abandoned for at LEAST 8-10 years. I'm dying to check it out and see if there's anything left inside. Anyone game to hit this place up this week with me? Let me know! It's near Disneyland (about 1 mile away).

| | | Hey, Not really sure. Haven't given it a close look - just driven by a few hundred times. lol. Seems locked down fairly well...I want to say there's a chain link fence around the property and all the windows are boarded. I will do a little recon tonight and report back.

It's pretty well closed up, but I think a creative group could figure it out. I'd love to do this ASAP. Not sure how long this building will be up; I have found proposals for apartments/condos for this property dated recently. I'm guessing it will be demo'd within 12-18 mos. Building is very large! If you're interested in hitting this place up in the next few days, lemme know! [last edit 11/16/2008 1:10 AM by L8 APEKS - edited 1 times]

| | | There are many businesses in the immediate vicinity, but there is no security per se. It looks like it would be pretty easy to get on to the property after hours; getting in, I'm not sure. I didn't get a close look at any of the entry/exits. I can't really assess the difficulty here, as I'm new to UE and I don't know what the preferred method of entry is. As the building has been locked up for a decade, B&E is required. Just not sure what the least invasive method is (ie, I don't want to damage or vandalize...even though it's gonna be bulldozed soon anyway.) Suggestions?

| | | off topic question: are you on STR? :p other than that, I wouldn't worry about that place going anywhere in the near future. the economy is tanking, and there's no profit in mowing the place down to build condos/apartments, or even a hotel in that location (yeah, I know where it is ;)) also, as a general rule, breaking and entering is quite frowned on by the UE community. don't pick locks or destroy things to get into a location. it makes you look stupid, and puts a bad face on an already sketchy interest group. Plus, with where this place is relative to major roads, snoopy motel occupants, and lots of residential, there's an increased chance of being caught. spend some more time walking around and paying attention to the details and see what you find. the outer fence looks easily bypassed. probably a way in, just gotta find it.

| | | yeah if it's a B&E case i'd recommend against it; i know you weren't suggesting anyone do so but thought i'd mention it all the same. there is quite a lot here in the LA area that doesn't require burglary tools or the risk of being caught with such; usually better to just stick to those L8, i'll let you know next time i'm planning a trip someplace. i've got a few unique ones brewing that i don't think many folks have done yet. you got a camera?

| | | STR = Yes. Haven't been riding much lately. B&E = I've been around. To say it's frowned upon would clearly make hypocrites out of 90% of the site members. Seems more like "don't ask, don't tell." Either way, no worries. Duly noted. PS...I need a real camera.

| | | yeah. a lot of people do stuff that might count as B&E, but walking up with bolt cutters or a pick set is kinda different. slightly realigning a fence post: a bit more subtle. Hell, I've completely removed a fence post to be able to open a gate once, but I put it back...
