Also, the blow out on the window is distracting. With the second one, I think you could use more shadow on the underside of the staircase. I also think it might be better with a tighter crop. Did it you try taking it horizontally, or maybe from an angle (versus straight-on)? I'm envisioning a photo taken with the camera at the right corner of the arch looking across the archway... darkness on the left going to yellow-green brightness with the staircase lines leading to you standing there. I now got a remote for this kind of things. @ argonian: thanks! you got a good point about the light in #2, it was in the afternoon so the sun was directly above the whole in the ceiling. I didn't use any additional lighting. I like the natural border that the building creates therefore this framing.
