|  | | | Here's some pics from a wetland flood control area that had a lot of potential drain entrances. I only had 15 minutes so I didn't explore it fully.
This is the largest tunnel which goes to the other side of the road you see in the background. You can also see an pipe in the background, it also goes under the road.

This is an outfall inside the tunnel, next time I go back I'm going to check it out, looks like there's more stuff at the end of it.
Next I went to across a stream on this old rusty beam to check out some other outfalls.
Careful...
I found this. But it was completely sealed up which sucked because it looked to be the most explorable.

I believe it was sealed. The screws looked to be attached to at least one end of the gate. But I'm definitely going back there some time so I will look more closely and see how well attached it is.

That hook arrangement is interesting - could it perhaps be hinged at the base, and held closed at the top by those hooks?

| | | | Either that, or the gate rests on the top hooks and the bottom hinge needs to be removed in order to open it. I wouldn't be surprised, either way. I've seen a lot of extremely inefficient drain gates.

The gate is hinged at the bottom, as in, it opens downward. The top part rests on the hooks, but it's impossible to lift and open it because it is securely hinged at the bottom. At the top of the concrete structure, the vertical metal bar is attached by a chain, but it is only secured by a plastic tie so that is not a problem. I'm guessing that you have to untie the chains, push the vertical bar down, which rotates the hooks, letting the gate open. Complicated, right? Has anyone ever seen a gate like this?

| | | | I went back to explore the outfalls inside the tunnel. One of them turned out to be just a tunnel that led to a dead end at a grate. The other tunnel, as seen in the following picture, went for much longer. I went into it about a body length or two, but decided to turn back because it was very small and there weren't any larger areas ahead. So it was kind of disappointing, I thought I might find some cool stuff.
Even with my mag-lite I couldn't see the end.
