First rolls of film

I just got an EOS-3 and shot my first few rolls of film last weekend. I had the photo place scan the negatives for me because I dont have my scanner unpacked from moving yet, so these are unedited. You know the drill. Tell me what works and what I need to improve. 1-7 are from CVH, 8-10 are "Cliffside"

If anything I'd say #8 doesn't describe the space quite as well as the others, and #9 is too cluttered for me to quickly latch on to a composition in, but does document the area well, so it succeeds in that respect. #8 I would have tried with a somewhat wider angle to include some kind of indication of the boundary of the area. That's just me.

#1 and #7 I really like. They both have a very high quality of light and have more emotion in them than the others.

As far as editing them, I'd say don't if you're getting shots that look like this straight from the lab. They're great as far as tonal range and color go. It's making me want to get out one of my old cameras and shoot some film for once.

Thanks all, I'm excited to experiment with film more. I felt 1 and 7 were the strongest, I'm glad you guys agreed. I have a roll of B&W being developed as well, I may post those in the photography section when they come back.

@sYnOnYx - I used basic Fujicolor 200 film. For lenses, I used my Tokina 12-24mm f/4 and Canon 28-105mm f/3.5. For the Tokina I had to zoom in to about 18 or 20 because its a crop body lens.

Yah, I'm eyeing my long-neglected Canon A1 right now, remembering the hands-on feel of film.

I'm a sucker for symmetry, so #1 and #10 strike me. The the color is great without being overwhelming in the last.

As for number #8, I can see what buddy meant about making use of space. Did you consider shooting from behind the chair, out into the auditorium, and that way also getting a better focus on whatever funkiness is going on with the stage?

Great photos though. I'ma go buy film tomorrow.

I like 8. It is a different view of the auditorium that I usually see.

1 & 7 are my favs.

They are all pleasant to the eye!

Caligula -- I honestly would suggest you skip Cliffside, its not really worth the time

as for the auditorium, I shot it a few different ways, and this was my favorite because its different than how its usually shot

I got back my black and whites:

Pretty sweet.

The 3 is an INCREDIBLE fucking camera. Eye controlled, multi-point spot meter. If you're not using the spot meter (it looks like you are) definitely check it out. I think it might be the greatest meter ever. I don't think I've ever used a camera that made me so confident in my exposures. My only problem with it is that sometimes I tend to underestimate how many stops I have on the bright side, and wind up underexposing again. I always let the highlights be 2 stops up, the shadows 2 stops down. Gotta get thinking in terms of 3 stops on each side.

Thanks for the advice, Desmet. I was using a light meter for lots of these shots, but for a few I used the TTL on the camera. It really is impressive. When I used it I stopped it up by 1, and the results are impressive. This camera was worth every cent.
