I bought a Canon XT off eBay last week and with minimal experience (photos of pets and my yard) I set off on a journey to photograph a place I had wanted to check out for some time.

I would love to hear any critiques and suggestions for the future. Also any photoshop tips you have for touching up pics??

some people might tell you about the "6 per post" rule.
im not going to complain about that, but i will say i think a lot of these couldve been left out. or they maybe shouldve been posted in the photography forum, not the photo critique forum.

uh the lighting is icky in all but 3 and 10.

#8 is mostly blur, with a rug at the bottom...idk dude. the rest are just boring to me. its mostly the lighting and the fact that ive seen the subject matter a lot of times before.

i like 3 way better than the rest, but even that could use some exposure correction and better focus. interesting though, i like it.

to be constructive, i think cropping your shots might help. cut out the parts that dont contribute to the picture.
also stay away from taking outdoor pictures during midday sun. it kills your photographs. dusk and dawn are best. indoors, it wont matter as much. obviously.

lastly, try to focus on what is interesting about what youre shooting. texture, repeated patterns, light play...whatever. just set up your shot to make that the focal point. (like #9. that rusty screen on the left is cool, but youve included a bunch of distracting clutter also.)

ok im finally done. youre probably going to hate me now but whatever. keep taking pictures, ive seen some people's photography get a lot better in a short amount of time.

#3 is my favorite. great colors, and good composition.
#12 will be my second best. But I will crop it a bit on top and bottom (some might object, I tend to like my pictures more wide than high... Maybe because I work on film, and really love the wider format of it).

The other for me could do with more contrast, and seem a bit over-exposed for me. (once again some might object, this is only my own feeling)

Also. Shoot RAW, and try Adobe Lightroom... It is just perfect ad a very easy tool to get around to improve your shots...

Those are my 2 cents.

Thanks for the tips.

Your probably right these would belong better in the photography section, I'll consider that next time. Also as I said this was my first time shooting with the XT so I had the exposure on auto thats why some of the exposure was off.

I just leave mine on Program (P) constantly, but sometimes I turn it on Aperture Priority (Av) & set it on f/22-33?

I suggest using aperture priority, unless you are shooting without a tripod, in which case set it to shutter priority and use the focal length + one stop rule

EDIT: 3, 10 and 11 are your strongest here in my opinion. Keep working on it, your going in the right direction!
