Mixed Set: Getting gassed at the HIRAX House

Hey guys...

You know how I roll. Please rip these apart so I can keep learning. This is a mixed bag between three recent sets of mine.

One

Two

Three

Four

Five (a little blurry - anything else is fair game)

Three is really interesting. Love the framing and reflection in the windows. Definitely did a double-take with that... and I love doing double-takes.

Did you drop all the levels except for green? It's a nice effect, but I feel like the image doesn't need to be "pushed" to get that faded feel. I'd be interested in seeing the original for comparison's sake.

Five the framing is a bit off. The pump to the right of the frame and whatever is hanging down in the top right corner are a bit of a distraction.

Your colours are awesome as always.

It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pitty

Thanks for the critique. I can't remember the exact post-processing method. I might have left the green, but I'm betting I just dropped them all and then green remained because it was so overpowering.

Here is the original thoroughness's sake. Note my newly developed light leak on the right side of the frame which doesn't make me happy. I don't know what I'm going to do now...

Looking at it now, I also like the original rotation of the shot too.

1: Show a little of the door opening, just a bit, unless the door is just chilling there not connected to anything.

2: Don't end the picture (corner or straight edge) on any corner or straight object, unless the object is perfectly (or nearly perfectly) centered and is the only object of the picture. Left side, top corner especially. Get off the frame, into the wall some.

3: I want to see more of the "hat" on top. This would be a good candidate for a tilt shot. Tilt shots are really overused, and this is what I consider a rare example of a good one to at least try. Whether or not it works, I wasn't there. I HATE tilt shots of hallways unless there's something angled about the hallway to start.

4: The pump's a little overbearing in the scene. You also cut part of it off (by the look of it) in favor of a huge (comparitively) space on the right side.

5: Good, a little symetrical. The blur isn't bad, looks like it could even be deliberate. With the color shifting, it just looks old. Was autofucus misbehaving?

Wow, I didn't even realize that you were shooting film! That makes me even happier.

@Decoy - Yup, all but that last shot are film. That last one screams out P&S. Now, after I posted that original...what do you think about the rotation and other post-processing? I'm not even sure if I like it. I was just messing around in Photoshop. I actually just started messing around in it. I've been using Paint Shop Pro for the last 12 years, so the transition for me is very difficult.

@Zorb - Thanks for the critique man. All good recommendations.

Hmm. The rotation of the original sort of takes away from the emphasis of the reflection for some reason - puts more weight on the lattice of frames, maybe?

I'd like to compare them side to side on my monitor at home - I'm at work right now so, it's not the best place to look keenly at images of this caliber.

Edit: I definitely like the original - processing and colour-wise

After looking at them side by side - I think that the modified rotation was a good idea - it makes the image look a little more considered, and the building seems a little less accessible.

I have two things i would like to add.
On the third picture i get a little distracted with that deep focus, i would have liked the foreground to be focused and the trees in the background to blur a bit (in english its called depth of focus?).
On the fourth the lid on the back of the pump is not entirely inside the frame which is a shame. Apart from that, i love that shot.
