There were two places down there I had been longing (and planning) to explore, but they were BOTH demolished around the beginning of the year. The first was this railroad industrial area, with (from left to right) a warehouse, a factory of some sort, and a LOCOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE FACILITY...all abandoned, and the second was an abandoned Malibu Castle Fun Center. Actually, the building itself is still there and accessible, but most of the outlying amusements have been razed. (I was principally interested in night-shooting some of the mini golf structures)

Ive also wondered about Houston what like 6 db entries? I stayed there for a month once and there is definitely stuff to check out.

| | | | I spent almost ten years in Houston, and there is plenty to check out. Galveston has its share too. That isn't counting all the little surrounding towns, full of old stores and sagging marinas and more. I made it out to the old lighthouse in Galveston many times, but it has finally collapsed. The WWII warehouses on the main road into town got bulldozed several years ago as well. I have quite a few 35mm photos in a box somewhere. I may dig them out one day.
Regardless, there is plenty to see. Its a 13 hour drive for me. Some of you closer folks get on out there!
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Yeah I see that. I knew about the place but didn't know it had been demolished. That sucks. I lived in Houston for 6 years and there is tons of stuff down there to see.
I go back a couple of times a year (although I haven't been in about a year now). It is time for a road trip back to see my favorite building of all time, huh 2X? I gotta quit talking about that and just make it happen.

Noah Vale explored that train yard but its been gone awhile.
Yeah Im up let me know Ill even drive. I spent better part of 2 days trying to find a way in to a couple spots but between railroad cops and port authority cops and security it just wasnt gonna happen.
Maybe after we win the war on terrorism.

| | | | Lately I have found that if you wear some sort of railroad clothing, I have a hat I wear, when prowling yards it gets you out of trouble. That and have a RR book or something. I got out of several encounters with RR police with nothing more than a wave and a be careful with these two items.
Also alot of the yards will grant you permission now. I dunno if they would let you run amok in an abandoned building but still.

| | | | Yeah, explorers from Houston are pretty quiet. Noah and a guy that used to be on the forums, Porfzilla and a few others would explore there once in a while but not much recently. I'd venture to say that Houston and Galveston have just about as much to explore as Dallas and Ft Worth. There are multiple hotels and office buildings downtown but they are all pretty hard to get into - some pretty impossible. The bay areas apparently have lots to offer too.

You need another option in the poll... I think they exist but must not know how to use the internet or something. I guess "In hiding" is close enough.

I was speaking of the port, they are way more anal than RR cops + the RR runs through there so its double jeopardy
I got the third degree from some customs boys just for asking a simple question I think theyre all hoping to score the next big bust that will get them promoted to the state dept or something

Most of the abandoned buildings in Houston are in gang territory and I don't really want to run into any of them.
I dunno... just my thought.
