I did this over a year ago for a photo class project. I totally forgot to post it here. Enjoy!

Gotta love the rolfcopter!

Its a great place but I wouldn't try Salton until the fall when it starts to cool off. I suppose you could do a full night set to avoid the heat though.

Great photos. I've driven up the east side of the Sea a few times in the last year, with the most recent trip being just a few weeks ago (Dan-Oh is right, it is hotter than hell there in the summer, even at night). Unfortunately, I never have time to stop and properly explore. The truck or van that is in your fifth photo is gone now, but Bombay Beach is as weird as ever. Here are some shots of mine:

A derelict hotel at dusk:

The same location during the day:

A kind of lame long exposure (no moon) of the yacht club or whatever it was:

A trailer in B.B. (I got yelled at for taking this shot):

Another B.B. trailer:

A very popular chair:

It's not abandoned, but no trip to the Salton Sea would be complete without a stopover at Salvation Mountain...

Gotta love salvation mountain. There was a big article in National Geographic last year about the Salton Sea with some cool pics of the mountain. Interesting guy that fella is.

there's a DVD documentary out about the Salton Sea - if I remember right it's called "Plagues and Pleasures of the Salton Sea" and is narrated by John Watters - it's actually a good watch. They show some of the interesting folks that live in the area and include Salvation Mountain.

Haven't seen it yet but the name is right. It's on my Netflix list.
