Underground - Two Shots

Well by now you guys probably know how I roll. I post in this section because I am really looking for a critique from you. I seriously want to know what you may dislike about these shots. If you like them, that's great and I appreciate it, but please tell me what you don't like about them.

This was from a recent outing. Shots are from the inside of an outfall.

Number One

Number Two
Who put that skinny white dude in the shot?

Thank you!

Nothing really wrong with these, although I'd like to see a few more details in the darker areas on the right just to help balance things out a bit.

I really like the second one. There is something very Sci-Fi about this.

And then, it asks the question: in a cold, uncaring, ruthless world of corporate slavery and assembly-line experiences . . . how is it possible to still live a life with strength, and passion, and with a soul that is still truly alive?

I like them. I agree with what micro said, but would also say that there is a branch or something in the left of the window that kinda takes away from the symmetry.

They look good. I like the second one best but I agree about the thing in the window

Thanks guys. That's why I love this section, because I would have never noticed that myself. If I'm at all energetic, I might have to try and photoshop that branch out.

The first one is great, though a fraction more light on the far right would be nice. As for the second one, what it really needs is a John Travolta Saturday Night Fever pose. Come on, you know it's true.

meta, thanks!
Buawahahh...that is an excellent idea! I would love to do a retro UE set wearing 1970's exploration gear and whatnot. I have the 1970's cameras (just picked up a Minolta SRT101 yesterday), just need to stop off at the Salvo and grab some clothes. That might actually be a fun isea for themed urbex meet. Seriously, what will the police do when they see that you'll all wearing 70's clothes, or even better yet used tuxedos's and wedding dresses? Probably just laugh and tell you to leave.

I wore a trilby, suit and wellies one night, and posed by a derelict boat for a few long exposures. They were truly awful I have a vague plan involving a balaclava and mirrored aviator glasses, but I've been hampered by not actually owning either. But yeah, what better way to spice up the well-worn silhouette-in-drain shots than to go retro!

Actually, now that I've said that, would you believe there's a drain meet happening somewhere very soon that demands its participants wear Salvo's suits? And groinal enhancements, but that's another matter.

So what's the deal with the "window." I'm guessing it's just the light coming through a flood gate at the outfall?

Nah, I only visit the nice cushy drains with all the amenities of home, except this one was in The Matrix, so it was green.

Really though you got it right. It's an overflow outfall and if the water level ever reaches 7 feet only then will it overflow out into the stream with those nice green photographic filters (tree leaves). Normally though the water is contained and makes it sway to a pump station and on to the treatment plant.

# 2 - Skinny white dude shot wins !

I really like the dangerous symmetry here and the blend 'o' colours / shadows.

The first one doesn't look quite level to me. If you're going to go with the flat, dry, calm, quiet, straight-ahead composition your horizontals have kinda gotta be horizontal, yo

Sorry. I just wanna reach in and tweak it round clockwise slightly.

Personally I would of HDR'd the first shot.
cause ironically... the bright light at the end of the tunnel bugs me!

Second shot is just fine though.

Love the colours in the first. And the second one does have that sci-fi feeling to it. Very cool.

Ditto to micro. Both good shots, could have some more shadow detail.
