Yeah, I referred to the little bastards who find their way to every untouched location, smash them to pieces, paint ugly graffitis and finally burn the place to the ground. It's quite common in that city, especially if the building is in some way protected or preserved, so we have named it "the Turku disease" after the city (Turku). | | | | Very nice HDR work. There is a time and a place to do it. And if you do it, there then is another decision on where to move the slider bar on the 'Detailed Realistic/Cartoon World' scale.
On the hdr's, you definitely picked a good place to use them, and you definitely used them in the correct way for the situation. On top of that, over the entire set you went from realistic to surreal and the application still fit perfectly.
To balance it out, the bad...
1) Really I can't find any negatives. I can't say it's a typical long hallway shot because of the open doors, the numbers, and the light. Though I think the B&W fits very well, I'd be curious to see it in color, but I can imagine that I would still like the B&W better. What about one of those merged shots of the B&W overlayed with color where the light is shining though the doorways in color onto the B&W? But really, I like it as is. The only really negative I can say, it while it's a nice shot, it's almost a void of nothingness, while it's still interesting, it's still just a blank clean whiteness.
2) Just a slight bit too much brightness and/or saturation of the leaves. Not a lot too much, just so very slightly.
3) I'm really nitpicking here. How about just a small 0.5 degree rotate to the right so the upper-level corner and the focused railing spindles are vertically aligned? OCD doesn't allow my to enjoy things not at perfect right angles when there is an opportunity to do so.
4) I can't really be too negative about this one, but I'd really be interested in seeing a B&W of this exact same shot.
5) Is the entire thing blurry, or is the part that actually is focused in a void leaving no surfaces of any of the subjects to be seen clearly? Not trying to be schiesty on my wording of this, but I could maybe see the point of focus being in between the first doorway and the closets. Possibly too much post-production was the cause? Though on the negative side of this critique I'm ripping apart as hard as I can and overall I still like it and I could also see the blurriness as part of the feeling of the shot.
6) If this was in true color, it would be in cartoonland, but since it's B&W or some color depleted greenish/bluish tint, it works. Sorry, can't find a negative on this one. Very creative and very fun. Almost two pictures in one. How's it feel knowing tat you're manipulating the viewers eyes and brain for 5 seconds upon viewing your shot?
7) Again no negative here. It seems as your non-traditional stuff seems stronger than the traditional work. I would love to see a whole set (in a different location) processed this way. Each shot processed differently of course. The color and the methods would vary on each one, but some general themes and methods in common between each one would be fun. It's just really refreshing to seem something like this. It's like you took the UE'ing out of it, came up with an amazing shot, and then in the end, you're still UE'ing, that's still your location, and it's still just outright sick!

| | | | Wow, thanks for very very very educational comment, and I must say that I agree with everything, but at the same time I must say that picture number 4 doesn't work in black and white - I did try it. 
I think that it is that quite small contrast between floors and walls in that one, in B&W it just looks so... Flat.
And that number 5 have blur, added blur; I'll try to keep it hands, but now that I've finally learn to (basic) use levels in Photoshop and learn (basic) this blur effect...
Other reason for using that was that that the place was REALLY dark, my camera didn't focus well and I did have to use big(gest) aperture to get exposures even near to one second - I've noticed that with longer than that hdr's are out of hand, too much noise. Much too much - bit of noise ain't automaticly bad thing.
But once again, thank you very much for this excellent comment!
