Also depends on the type of bullets they're using. In the US it would have to be a situation in which he/she feels their life or someone else's life is in immediate danger. You can't just start shooting at someone because they are trespassing (unless we're talking about US government property/military base, etc). As a security guard, you would be required to call the police if you could not apprehend the trespasser(s) safely. What I was referring to, however, is a general rule with firearms. It is plausible to aim at someone with the intent of wounding them, but there is no guarantee. There are too many factors which are out of your control. Therefor, if you aim at someone, be prepared to kill them.
