Shoot back?

Fuck you people frighten me sometimes.

As I stated, Thadius, i believe that none of you truly have had the rural, northern New York experience and therefore are incapable of understanding the depth and scope of the above statement.

I could tell you stories about hunting expeditions with my brother that usually had one or two firefights with other hunters. No, I'm not being facetious.

I'm not aware of any normal security guards who can carry guns

We have lots of armed Security Guards here in Ontario.

Brinks, Universal ATM, Loomis, Intercon, Garda, Target Investigations, Group 4 Securicor... just to name a few.

What would I do? If I got hit, I'd bleed. If not, sic Mr. Brown on the poor bastard and continue to explore. A security guard would keep him busy for a good half hour. His two favorite flavors are security and mail man.

Shoot back.

If you aim a firearm at someone, you intend to kill them. Otherwise, you do not aim at them.

The guard already fired at me. Therefor, he intends to kill me. I don't want to die, so I must defend myself.

I think you'd have to do a little more than just be somewhere to get shot at. I could maybe see rednecks out in the country breaking out a 12g, but a security guard to just start shooting for no reason?? He would more than likely have to feel threatened.

Agreed, they wouldn't just start shooting. If they work for a security company and are licensed to carry a firearm while on duty then I would expect that the company would make sure that the guard isn't the trigger-happy sort who likes to shoot stuff and/or people for kicks.

If I got shot at I'd probably get my ass to cover and stay there untill I can figure out a way to get out of there without being killed. I'd also soil my pants somewhere along the way too.

*While exploring I have been shot at three separate times, twice with pistols and once with a shotgun.

*I have been shot at once while not exploring and minding my own business.

*and I have been shot at once while out doing target practice of my own. That time we did not leave..we sent a nice hot lead injection right back at the drunk fucker, happily no one got hit, either us or him but his truck wasn't so lucky.

wait 5 mins, see if the person fires another shot, if they do, call in local pd or county/parish/etc sheriff's dept. if they don't, stay low, stay quiet, and find a good place to hide for a few hours.

as far as shooting back goes, in most states trespassing is a slap on the wrist and a fine, trespassing while armed is a felony.. *shrugs* in my neck of the woods (half the year anyway) trespassing with a firearm is called hunting season.. of course trespassing with a firearm during hunting season may land you in a whole world of sh*t.. game wardens for poaching even if you didn't fire your weapon on the land, local law for felony trespassing, breaking and entering, etc.

i guess the real question is, what are you comfortable with? i for one am comfortable with waiting it out and talking it out if it comes down to it, or calling in the law and accepting the fine (after pocketing my memory cards and putting a blank one in the cam, and snapping 3-4 shots).. but, as i worked security for years, i must say, i don't know of one guard that fired on a person unprovoked.

Not necessarily. It's entirely plausible for someone to aim at you for the purpose of immobilizing you. Shooting the arm, leg, foot, whatever. Also depends on the type of bullets they're using. Some are designed so they purposely do not kill, but leave a wound that looks as though it might have done a lot of damage.

There are incredibly few situations in which a security guard could legally discharge a firearm at someone. In the US it would have to be a situation in which he/she feels their life or someone else's life is in immediate danger. You can't just start shooting at someone because they are trespassing (unless we're talking about US government property/military base, etc). As a security guard, you would be required to call the police if you could not apprehend the trespasser(s) safely.

That's very true. What I was referring to, however, is a general rule with firearms. It is plausible to aim at someone with the intent of wounding them, but there is no guarantee. There are too many factors which are out of your control. Therefor, if you aim at someone, be prepared to kill them.

I have been shot at 3 times while exploring and photographing.
Most recently, just last month, I had a concerned local citizen discharge a shotgun in the air while I was photographing exteriors in his area.
I took cover, drew my sidearm, identified myself, called the townie cops and he got a misdemeanor rap for asault.
I don't think I would reccomend that approach for 95% of the members of this forum. . . .

Nope. You are 100% wrong.
No one trains to "immobilize." You train to shoot center of mass until the target is dead. Dead.
W/r to ammo, you're wrong too - unless you are talking about beanbag or (you have yet to see these but MAN are they sexxy) Tazer shotgun rounds.
