If you are cutting down a tree illegally and you see a forest ranger and bail on foot, are you going to experience a foot pursuit with weapons drawn, helicopter chase and a dozen forest rangers in Broncos hot on your tail? Okay, maybe not for cutting down a tree, but the fact of the matter still stands, do these guys have the same basic authority as the city police? I'm assuming yes and this may be a dumb question, but this is the place for dumb questions so I'm asking. My father has told me that around here (Wisconsin) rangers from the DNR can freely walk through your property without a warrant, and there's nothing you can do. They have more ability than police in my area, as they are protecting the innocent bunnies and deer who are helpless against us raving lunatics who seek to destroy them at all costs. I just mean National Park Rangers, Bureau of Land Management Rangers, etc. These guys are usually armed, occasionally not, but I've seen most of them with a sidearm. They wear their funny rangers hat and cop sunglasses, but I wouldn't mess with them. I am just wondering if they behave as police do while in the forest or desert? I know they are mostly there to catch illegal poachers and give hikers a drink of water, but has anybody had more "cop-like" run-ins with them? "Put your hands where I can see 'em" type experiences? They can shoot you, arrest you, write you obscenely expensive tickets for whatever they feel like. Edit - Just some more info, I was caught with some friends having a fire when there was a burn ban and the Fish and Game officer that busted us pulled a gun quick like and I was very sure he wanted to shoot us. Of course if I confronted a bunch of drunken fools in middle of the nowhere I probably wouldn't hesitate shooting one of them either. Long story short after he called for back-up and searched all of our stuff we all left with 400$ dollar tickets. Oh and one more thing, I didn't start the fire, I arrived after it was already lit. Didn't matter, I still left with a 4 bill ticket.
