Got a chance to check out a former National Guard armory last month. While there, we had a storm blow in. Here are the pictures.

Some cool stuff in there. I could use that foot locker!

Those lightning shots are bad ass!

You've got it all! Cool lightning picture and nasty toilet picture. What more could we ask for! Good job man, these are some nice pictures.

Love the lightning stuff - would you consider colour correcting just the building a little bluer? Those sodium lights make it pretty orange compared to the sky.

The pics with the windows are nice. How long has that armoury been abandoned? Doesn't look like it's been empty for long...(judging by the PowerAde bottle)

Not long. It officially closed as an armory in the 80's, only to be reopened after 9/11 and close again in 2004 or 2005. The building is still used for the occasional community event, since it is in a small town, but that is kept to the main shop area and the kitchen. Those two areas are in good shape and functional, but the rest of the building is rapidly falling into disrepair.

There is a desire by the community to do something with the building, but I don't see the funds or the determination, unfortunately. It is a fascinating old WPA building that deserves more.

Also, the building used to have a basement that was used as a firing range, but it was declared an EPA hazard and was sealed off. Work to clean that up was supposed to start this month. I am not really sure what that entails, but the word is that the basement will be permanently sealed, which is too bad.
