Moulin Rouge, Las Vegas

I recently visited the old site of the Moulin Rouge. It's located at 900 W. Bonanza Road (I know, I know we're not supposed to put locations but it's easily available anywhere else). It's not exactly easy to find and it definately isn't in a nice part of town. There's supposed to be new activity at the site but other then some large equipment and a open fence there didn't seem to be much going on. Now, the building itself doesn't exactly exist, just the tower, a wall, the sign and some other various small buildings. You can walk around but be aware that there's a large homeless population in the area. I wanted to walk around but I was in flip flops and there is a nice amount of needles and such laying around. 2 of the old wings still exist and you can walk right up to them, just watch out for the workers across the street giving you the stink eye. Also, there were some crappy apartments located right next door that are now empty (due to a fire and general crappiness) that are prime for exploring too.

The sign

apparently a church occupied the building at some point in time, if you look through the window you can see a hobos sleeping spot.

If you want to know more about the site just look it up on Wikipedia.

It's OK during the day but then you can't really do to much because there's a warehouse across the street and it seems like the workers park in the empty lot next door. Yeah, I'd be a little scared at night. My suggestion is to bring some friends and drive a really crappy car.

Driven past there a few times as a youngster when my dad and i were homeless, (we were living in a car when we moved to Vegas after i got out of high school). That has to be one of the worst places in Vegas, (crackheads/gang members/homeless/drug dealers etc.).

I commend your bravery for exploring that spot.

Don't worry. His car won't attract ANY attention rolling through there.
