Visited with thenewmendoza

This place is rather cool!! it makes a nice change to find a drain with "stuff" in it!! the "processors" are sewage overflow surface scrapers to keep the solids out of the culvert/drain, and are automaticaly run when the sewers fill right up.

as a consequence certain sections of this drain STINK, and most areas are quite unplesant, but its interesting non the less, a mix of brick pipe, RCP, and a box section RCP make this well worth the visit.

anyhow, on with the pics!!

this is the entrance to the larger processor unit, in times of "high" flow, raw sewage would spew out of this hole

the larger processor

steps up

interesting formations

that's really cool, what with the machinery and the natural formations in that one pipe
I'm assuming this is a combined system then, with sewers connecting to drains in case of overflow?
anyways, post more pics, it's a very interesting (to me :\) place!

Until i located this drain i had little faith in England to produce great drainage. These days its the best draining country in the world.

You should join the drainers board if you havent already. The largest drainage tunnel in England just got located... under Manchester Victoria station.

Wow, great pictures! The stalagmite formations are pretty interesting there.

There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop...

I'm becoming accustomed to that 'stink' and don't find it that unpleasant, Processor is a great drain, but Manchester has so many I really need to pull my finger out and crack on. Oh for some dry weather..

Nice one Bungle.
