| | | Question for Yoopers < on 6/2/2008 4:23 AM >
| | | My dad has mentioned to me this really big old people's home that was near Dagett or Power, he couldn't remember. He checked it out when he was 18 years old, in the 80's, and he said that it's been demolished since then. I'm just wondering if anybody knows more about this place (name, history, pictures?) He also mentioned that it was abandoned sometime in the 1940s. He thought the entire place was really creepy, probably because he was there by himself with no flashlight. It had it's own morgue, with the table still there. There was a basement with hardly any light, the only windows at the very top. My aunt also mentioned this abandoned orphanage hear Escanaba or Marquette.

| | | I don't have any info on the old people's home, but the orphanage in Marquette now has a new owner. It's being turned into a center for performing arts with the previous owner financing 90% of it. The building has been basically quarantined and every entrance to the building has been shut tight.
Those doors stay closed...staring...waiting...plotting. I must find out their secrets. |

| | | They now have the funding to board up all the windows and replace/lock all the doors. This all happened late April into early May. The surrounding property is cleaned up with plans to clean the inside scheduled for this summer.

| | | The building has been surveyed and the Fire Marshall toured the building declaring it "safe". It is structurally sound. I'm not quite sure how this is possible, considering the state of the floors, but I'm not a Fire Marshall. I was told the roof was made out of cement and was quite secure.

| | | That orphanage was the site of my very first exploration. My last trip inside was around 2001 or so. I'm not sure wether to be upset or not about the renovations to it. It's so badly decayed that it's almost unexplorable, if the renovations go through it'll be like having an entirely new site to go look around in.

| | | I was just reading an article about an old mental hospital in Newberry. It was only empty for a few years in the early 90s. The State uses part of it now for a prison.
