| | | Ithaca Gun- a few shots < on 6/2/2008 12:43 AM >
| | | all of these are straight from the camera. no post-editing. i used a GE A730 digital point-and-shoot for these. it works surprisingly well for such a little camera. i prefer film, but i work with what i've got. i did get film pictures too, but i may have to wait until fall to develop them (yay for self-processing at a community college!) 1. the prominent smokestack.
2. a creepy shot of one of the giant metal doors.
3. the smokestack as seen through the windows on one of the floors (3rd floor, i believe). [last edit 6/2/2008 12:47 AM by everybodyknows - edited 2 times]

| | | having Everybody knows 2008 right in the middle of all of these is dumb looking. no one is going to steal these, believe me. the second picture is blurry and blown out and not well composed. are you using a tripod? the third one has the most promise.

it's just a habit to put a copyright thing on my photos online. whether anyone's going to steal them or not.

no, i've got a tripod, but didn't bring it with me on that particular trip. it's blurry because i was shooting by hand. it was taken at f/2.8 (which could also account for it being blurry) at 1/3 of a second.

| | | i don't mind having a copyright on the photos, but perhaps placing it in the bottom corner would be less intrusive to the viewers of the photos. just my two cents...do what you wish with your photos.

| | | second that.. i completely understand people feeling the need to have a copyright or some marking... but the placement in these killed it for me straight away

| | | I'd say you aren't doing too bad for the p&s camera that you have. Try a tripod or at least a monopod. Or put the camera against your chest while shooting. If you are all ready going in and trying to manually control a camera like that. Consider stepping up to a more pro-sumer model. You wont fight as much with batteries and you will have more control and features. As well as better low light functions. Oh and get the copyright out of the center, anyone with photshop skills can easily take that out. It will do nothing to protect your images. http://www.steves-digicams.com/ Steve's Digicams is a good site for camera reviews ( in my opinion ) it might help you find something that would suit you better.

| | | watermark aside....it's been discussed enough, go with msgsudz's suggestion. 3 is the strongest of the set. Interesting angle, interesting framing of the stack. 2 - too blurry, too dark. 1 - go forward and shoot up the stack, or stand back and get the entire thing in without going up a slight angle.

point taken about the watermark, i'll keep that in mind for future things. 2 is indeed blurry. low light + no tripod with me. for 1 i was trying to shoot it so that you could read the "ithaca guns". i would have liked a slightly better angle, but it's uphill from where i was shooting, which is one of the few spots the lettering wasn't blocked by trees. at least, nowhere near enough to not exhaust the optical zoom of my camera. i don't know whether or not it would still be readable with a sharper slant to it(shooting up the stack), but i may have to try next time i'm there. also, i can't go around to the left side of the stack without severely risking falling in a deep gorge. not gonna try that.
