| | | From what I read, Sunny Acres was a TB Sanitarium which was later used as a juvenile detention center. Cool history and creepy as hell. Can't wait to see your pics. Maybe this map will help. Lol.
Also read that the "General Hospital" right nearby is closed as well. Might be worth checking out. I don't live anywhere near that area however so I have no idea of the validity of this claim. But from what I read, they are both abandoned. [last edit 5/22/2008 8:48 PM by SirJinx - edited 1 times]

| | | that maps looks about right from when i was in there last. I think you got some misinformation on the general hospital though, i'm pretty sure that that is SLO's main hospital.
I might be in slo this weekend as well. I might be with people that aren't that interested in exploring though. When are you going to be down there?

| | | if i decide to go down, yeah. have you driven up closer to the plant? i can't tell if there is a gate some where on the road from the SAT, and there doesn't seem to be any oblique coverage by anyone.

| | | I've been inside the sewage treatment plant a few times, and yes there are people near who live nearby. Fortunately, I don't think they care. PM me with a link just so we are on the same page.

| | | "If you've come this far, maybe you're willing to go a little further..." If you venture a bit further north, there's also the New Idria ghost town as photographed here: http://www.flickr....72157594200990281/ Although there's plenty to see in SLO as mentioned.

| | | Do you have any sort of schedule planned for these? I'm prob gonna be busy when you end up going. Also if we're talking the same places, the General Hospital which is off Johnson (and right next to French Hospital) did close down sometime in the last decade or so? but is now used as a mental health facility so it isn't abandoned.

| | | If I were there, I'd be down, but I'm not FYI sunny acres is under 24 hour guard. We tried walking up to take exteriors during the central coast meet and we were told to leave by a posted guard. He wouldn't even let us take exteriors. cuesta tunnels is a good way to get run over IMO. the one curved one right where the tracks turn around to head north again is closed, however, and is kinda neat to check out. It is a helluva hike to get to though (any of them are really, bring a bike or something). If it's the sewage plant next to the trestle, then I believe it is quite active. There has been construction going on there in recent months. I do have a few suggestions though. -Talk to laurabeth about her railroad location, it's pretty neat. -Check out the avila tank farm (great daytime explore). Bring a respirator for any of the buildings. -theres always betteravia, but You've been there already and know how cool it is -a bit south of betteravia, theres an old hydrogen sulfide gas plant. Havn't been there personally, but I hear its pretty cool. hope that helps to enrich your stay in SLO -Bryan

I believe, seany, that this is the one place we tried to go to after betteravia the one night we went. At least I think it was you that I was with. I'm just not completely sure about the best way to get in without having to walk really far.

probably not worth the hassle. Google earth says just about a half mile from the road to the plant, but you'll need to find somewhere lower profile to park your car. Drop me a PM and I can give you better directions if you like.

| | | hey there, so I'm new-ish to urban exploring. Brand new to the site for sure. Are any of these places good for first timers? I've heard about the mental asylum, but only from friends' stories, and I definitely wanna check it out! any tips are greatly appreciated!
