Cattleman's Restaurant, OK

Enid, Oklahoma has an old stockyard that had an adjoining restaurant. The other day, I had some free time so I checked it out. There were several doors open and a busted window.

This was what looked like a guard shack by the cattle entrance.

The yard was like a maze. Very disorienting.

The bidding floor was open, and the auctioneer's box was empty except for this thing. I left that room and entered the main building through the open window on the front side. I had to step down on a couch, wind my way through a room full of cardboard boxes, before I found what looked a little like a waiting room. There was a bathroom at the back. I explored less than half the building because I was very uncomfortable with my car sitting (even hidden) outside. When I go back, I'll have to find the actual kitchen and restaurant.

The flash on my camera makes this waiting room-like area look a lot cleaner than it was. But there was was a coat of dust over everything. Someone had tagged the board with a name and date, but I forget what it might have been. I have several other pictures that I need to upload to my blog, including the bidding room and a pretty large generator that had been left behind.

My stepdad (in the mid 80s) was a cattle broker, spending his days in the auction barns and the nights at the bar -- strictly business, of course, and I probably helped him with several thousand bucks worth of business by driving him home. But in the late '80s or maybe early '90s, I remember the first time I went to the FW Stockyards and saw an "online" cattle auction -- the bidding was pretty much the same, except the buyers were watching the cows pass by on tape in an air-conditioned room. Unsurprisingly, most of the largest auction yards in rural parts are now abandoned, including the one founded by my stepdad's dad in [redacted ], OK.

J'ai toujours fait une prière à Dieu, qui est fort courte.
La voici: "Mon Dieu, rendez nos ennemis bien ridicules!"
Dieu m'a exaucé.

I remember going to the cattle auctions with my Grandfather back then it was a rear treat for them to take us + it was a excuse to get off the farm for a day. Good times I would love to find a couple to explore. You know I think i do that when i go back home. thx for reminding me

Double post, but we found this place. It was cute, I personally love the stockyard area with the holes in the roof next to the auction room. Gave for a picturesque scene

I had some free time and went back today. I parked at a friend's business and hiked along the railroad tracks for about a mile, so I wouldn't have to worry about my car being spotted. Anyway, I took some pictures from the top of the catwalk, and inside the restaurant itself. I should have them posted shortly.

More pictures: Doesn't that catwalk have a great view?

Isn't that an awesome view? That's my new desktop background.

Oh good. A wooden walkway. That's probably safer than the metal one. It wasn't.

I wanted to steal this so badly, but alas, I take only pictures and leave only footprints.

This made me wish the place was still open. MMMMM.
