Lead based paint...

Is there a way to tell lead based paint my sight? I've noticed that paint cracks in different ways: Some brakes off in triangles or polygons, some crack into rows and rows of little squares.

I don't know if you can tell it by sight, but it's not that big of a deal as long as you don't eat it.

My house was built about a hundred years ago and is chock fulla lead paint. My landlord informed us of this when we rented the house, and also told us that if we ever got hungry enough to eat it, we should just call her and she'd feed us.

There isn't any way to do it other than to carry a reagent kit around with you, in all honesty though lead based paint isn't really something you need to be concerned about in UE just stay away from dust and don't eat it.

Scratch and sniff, also works with identifying asbestos. No you can not tell by just looking at it and please, don't sniff/lick the paint.

It was in September, we saw their silhouettes fade away, outlined on the horizon against the rays of the setting sun.

Well you can smell if it's leaded when you sand it, leaded car paints have a distinct odor, not unpleasant, but strange, unique, sort of a "flat" nut like smell.

Who cares if it's lead unless your eating it, and you need to eat a huge amount to adversely affect you. We use to paint with industrial lead base paint on bridges. A 5 gallon pail weighed 80 or more pounds. Painters were literally covered in it, and ate their lunches like that. No one ever tested for high levels in the blood tests in 6+ months of that lead based frolic.

Lead paint simply isn't an issue, just don't stir up dust when around it.
Good advice to follow at any site. There are compounds far more toxic and dangerous that may be present.

I don't see how you would ever go hungry. Villa Villekulla is stocked with father's gold, isn't it?

As long as you aren't eating it, you're safe. Lots of lead based paint is still used in the world. On hand painted porcelain dolls for example.

Also, hand-painted porcelain dolls are hell on your teeth, so you shouldn't be eating them anyway.

Let's pretend there was some practical reason you wanted to know...

I think Lead paint blocks cell signals so if you enter a room and suddenly go from 5 bars to "please wait: searching..." You might have encountered lead paint. But that could be a number of things interfering. Metal detectors might be able to pick it up as well... Washing your hands should be enough to deal with any of the paint, which you should probably do either way.

You are correct about that! I recently went back to Nova Mill and found barrels of stuff that is spontaneously combustible, and decays into Hydrogen Sulphide when exposed to moisture. I don't have the picture with me at the moment, so I don't remember what it's called, but I should have an example by monday.

Yeah there isn't a way to tell by sight. And Most of us are more scared of asbestos. Although its usually save to ascertain that the old buildings will contain lead paint as it was only recently rejected world wide as a cancer carcinogen.
