| | envious of my wife < on 4/2/2008 6:32 PM >
| | | The only exploring I've done has been... yawn... authorized. My aunt used to be a winter caretaker of this resort island community, they had to drain the public water or it'd freeze. Ever been inside a water tank? Echoey, LOL. But the REAL FUN is meeting my wife at work in a job site. See, she's an environmental geologist, which means, cleaning up toxic waste at old industrial sites. You guys taking asbestos precautions.... A+. Take note that mining runoff streams can have a pH of 2. Yup. 2. That'll eat through your jeans. If you want to legally get into cool stuff... get a job at Servpro (they get blood out of murder scenes), the money is good. Or go to school and do groundwater modelling, then you can wander over all these barren sites and say... I want a monitoring test well, here, here, and here. Then return and draw samples every X months. Of course the Mrs. only appreciates the science, but when I tag along, I appreciate the cool other stuff. Naturally there are nondisclousure agreements etc and I won't get her in any specific trouble. I basically joined b/c this looks like a kickass photography forum that happens to occasionally sneak into cool locales. Few I've bumped into elsewhere are so hardcore as to run tripods and available light... though the covertness makes it necessary.

| | | I don't think that reorienting your career for the sole purpose of being allowed to explore buildings is a good idea, IMHO.

| | | I'm going to school to be an architect. I can usually make something up to get access to places. It's a handy side effect.

| | | How can I apply my education to abandonments? I suppose I can sit down and do calculations of how much weight is being supported by beams & stuff (hooray statics!....no). Or maybe I can make myself a kickass robot to get into places (sweet, but again, no). School is school, and recreation is recreation, they'll meet in some places, but I doubt I'll take a few years of my life at school so I can explore places legally. Get yourself a job doing what you want, and play after work where you want.
V-tech = V-Tek = Veetek = Witek. Make it count, say it right. |

AV hands get access to cool sites too.... Though most of them are "active" and it's not really infiltration, but I've gotten legit access to a number of aircraft hangers, historically significant arenas, and all sorts of other cool crap.

I make love the same way I resolve arguments. With my fists. |

| | | I think he means it's not "infiltration", since he had permission to be there. "Hi, I arranged with admin to come and have a look today" "Sure, we're expecting you. Why are you dressed as a ninja, though?" "Oh, um... force of habit." [last edit 4/3/2008 5:48 AM by metawaffle - edited 1 times]

| | | I use any reason to dress like a ninja. All day, everyday. Actually, I kinda like that part of UE. It's like some kind of tactical war-play from my childhood. Like night time hide and seek. Being a Location Manager for film and television production helps out too.
"By the prick of my thumb something wicked this way comes..." "Under the cover of night, I travel across rooftops while you dream of adventure." |

I may not look like much, but I'm pro at almost managing to sneak around places while pretending to be a ninja.
Oh, I'm sick of doing Japanese things. In jail they made us be in this dumb Kabuki play about the Forty Seven Ronin, and I wanted to be Oshi, but they made me Ori! |
