| | | An explorer friend assured me they're well worth the money. I tried them recently, and was amazed to find that: though unremittingly funny looking, Memory_Machine was right.

| | | rechargeable batterie technology has come a long way in the last 5-10 years. i find they last longer in my camera then regular batteries. for about $40 you can get 8-AA batteries, a compact charger and most likely it will also come with a car adaptor. unless you bring your "used" batteries to one of those "used batterie drop boxes"(and who does?) for proper disposal, do us, future generations and the enviroment a favor and go with rechargeable!

| | | To clarify there is no such thing as a rechargeable Lithium AAA/AA Battery, but the lithium standard cell has an extremely long shelf life. As stated by the original poster they can supply more energy than regular Alkaline batteries, as well as handling much higher current sinks, even more than Nickel Metal Hydride. Never try to recharge these as a very nasty fire can result. Li-ion rechargeable bats are a totally different animal, my favorite type of storage bat. To bad more devices don't make use of this technology, but they require a special charger unit, and have other issues as well.
Redox you make a valid point as these are the densest battery power sources available. Circuit City has good prices on these. http://www.circuit...DUCT&cm_keycode=92

| | | i've recharged alkaline batteries before, they don't last as long as nimh but its cheaper, since you can usually get dead ones from the trash for free

| | | NiMH are great, but after a while I found that I needed to take a large amount of them with me, some would start to fail, and you don't want that happening during an outing. Li-Ion lasts me more than two fills on my Pentax K110D using 2 gig cards RAW format. That's over 400 RAW images. It's worth $16 to know they'll last 400 pictures.
I still have my 24 or so NiMH for flashlights and backups to my Li-Ions. [last edit 3/15/2008 7:57 PM by atomx - edited 1 times]

You should get at least 200 cycles and prolly much more (not sure exactly, but I know that's the way low side). The problem may be the charger; some batteries are in different charge states. Cheaper chargers address the group rather than the individual battery, which is ok if they are always charged as a set. Try a smart charger that set individual custom charge curves for each battery. Sanyo NiMH are a better Q with a very low internal resistance which helps extend their life. I've seen them at Circuit City.

for Ni-Mh make sure you get the hightest rating.. right now finding 800 - 950 mah is pretty standard for a AAA battery. Its like 3000 mah for a AA and rising, they keep getting better and better. the Mah number tells you how much power it can hold.. think of it as a cup of drink at a fast food place. Smaller numbers will hold less then larger numbers, as a smaller cup of pop will hold less Coke than a Larger cup. I recommend getting the 15 minute chargers. I got one for $20 at factory direct. Not only did it come with 4 AA and 2 AAA it will also charge my Regular Ni-Mh in 15-30 minutes my other 15 minute charger however does the 12 hour slow trickle thing like regular chargers but charges 4 at a time as opposed to the good one that charges only 2. The one that has 2 slots and cost me $20 was a NOMA 15 minute charger model ps14 and fits nicely in a backpack and is STILL available at that price at Factorydirect.ca plus it lasts 500 charges and keeps a charge really good (doesn't run out of juice fast) if you can get lithiums that do that I will switch.. but until then
I will defeat that which was once untouchable only so that I may now move on |

| | | I had the highest at that point, 2700mah, and I do have a good charger for 2 batteries, and an older charger for 8, but I noticed one 'bay' not working so I stopped using that 'bay', so now it only does 6 at a time.
