Welcome to uer. Nice pics, i've been wanting to check that place out for a while. We were driving by the night that the main house burned. They had the road blocked and wouldn't let anyone through.

Yeah, so would I. I don't really know anything about it, other that I drive by it frequently. It's weird, I never really noticed it until after the fire.

We seem to be getting a lot of new local explorers, which is awesome!

Good pics and cool location.

It's definitely some high-end computer equipment from the '70s. Looking again, the slot at the left looks like it may have had paper tape capability, too. Pix from Wikipedia:

Those holes are roughly a tenth of an inch apart, so paper tape could hold a little over a letter an inch. As Wikipedia understates, "Datasets much larger than a few dozen kilobytes are impractical to handle in paper tape format."

I never actually used paper tape for coding -- I got started with the TRS-80 -- but when I was a kid my dad showed me the punching machine at the FAA radar site where he worked. He punched my name in a strip of tape, which was way cool. Wish I'd kept it!

Would have been cool to have that tape he made with your name. It's amazing how yesterdays "state of the art" is todays junk and tomorrows collectible antique.

How strange that I just read that quote/notion/idea while catching up on my Robert Cringely. And ironically, he was talking about social networking--i.e.: our favorite UER forums--being another CB radio.

"Marshall McLuhan argued that obsolete communication technologies survive as art forms."
