This was to be the last trip to the Monaco Oil site, just outside of Rochester. After talking with several construction workers, it is slated for demolition sometime next month (as soon as the heavy equipment can be brought in says one worker).

The building has pretty much been gutted, but here are a few of the last shots.

It is a sad day.

There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop...

Can anyone shed (light) on the fact of why all my pictures come out "grainy" and "grey?"

I think it may have something to do with having too low an ISO, although I am not positive.

What kind of camera are you shooting with? The shots seem nice, but you're right they do come off as a bit grainy.

I'm shooting a Nikon D70 with a 70mm-300mm lens

Check your iso and white balance.

They look underexposed, and according to your exif data you were shooting at 1600 ISO (which would explain the grain). Use a tripod, take your time, take longer exposures, lower the ISO.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

And if they are still underexposing, check your exposure compensation setting and set it to +0.3 or 0.7 or so.

Yeah, I shoot with a Nikon D50, and I find any iso setting higher than about 400 to be really noisy (ie grainy).

As was already mentioned, I'd recommend using a tripod and to set the iso lower. Also, what's the largest aperture on that lens? 4.5? If you don't need telephoto you could also try a lens with a larger aperture, like the Nikon 50mm 1.8. With a wider aperture, you can have faster shutter speeds/lower iso for your indoor shots.

And while this may seem like common sense, if you're using any of the non-auto shooting modes, remember to reset your white balance, iso, exposure compensation, etc when you're done with a particular location. I've blown some hard to get shots because I forgot to check all the settings...
