| | When a friend dies < on 2/10/2008 3:24 AM >
| | | An active site with a partially abandoned wing was recently heavily vandalized by teenagers my age. The site was very explorer friendly. the vandalism not only increased security, but made the rest of the facility very negative to unwanted peoples. Plus chemicals, such as mercury, were released and in the subsequent cleaning there were numerous other bad chemicals found. On top of that the tunnels connecting it to the rest of the buildings were found to have been entered. While I cover my tracks, others are less concerned. Now if I am found in any part of the tunnel system, there will be very severe consequences. A site has never been off-limits before in my tiny town and I was wondering how long I should wait until exploring again. I'm guessing four months for other areas and about a year before going back into the tunnels. What do you think is a minimum time to let things cool down? Has a favorite place of yours been suddenly put off-limits by other stupid kids?

All my favorite places are off limits. Give it a little time. Keep an eye on the site. Take a walk by it now and then. Common sense really.

| | | A very awesome place I used to explore was rendered completely off-limts to myself but not because of anyone's actions (I don't think). The federal Port Authority simply bought the property and had the entire area secured by two different security companies (both of them with mobile and K9 response). I do think they'll relax it one day, because they haven't really done anything with the property or the land and all that security must be costing an ass load of money. It was pretty shocking in the start though, since the place used to be basically wide open. Inside it was a mecca of industrial goodness, every person I took there was simply dumbfounded and overcome with sheer joy.

| | | Stuff like that has never happened before in this town. I can't gauge it against anything. It keeps getting worse and worse too. Now all the employees are saying that they all had gone in there and they need tests for different chemical poisonings. The Union is freaking out because of lack of protection from harmful stuff. I guess it would be alright to still visit other places in the area. I can tell it's going to be a while before I can go back to that specific building, though.

im guessing it's a metaphor for losing the building as a place easily explored, I.E. the site is "dead to him".

| | | 42 - the answer to everything. But anyways, unless the town has absolutely nothing else to worry about, I wouldn't think they would spend %100 of their time and focus on that. And if they do, it definitely wont be permanent. Everything is eventually forgotten in time, and that's where we come in I suppose.

| | | Your best bet is to just keep an eye on it. Try to notice even subtle differences: how many cars in the parking lot, how many of them look like they're cops/security, what security measures are taken on the abandoned parts and how well they're maintained. Stuff like that.

| | | A popular spot in my college days was a missile silo. Access was easy because the main stair trap door was propped open. Just walk right down. Then one night, a student (not with us) fell through an opening, hit a slab, knocked her out, and rolled into the nasty water. She survived with CPR and was airlifted out. 2 weeks later, we went back and the site was sealed up tight.

Our thoughts exactly at the time. She wandered into the equipment silo without a flashlight and down she went, so the story in the paper said, she just missed getting impaled on electrical conduits.
