First suggestion is to buy a tripod and use that in low level lighting situations. Next learn the rules of composition, which is a tall order since composition can mean so many things, but just go out and read a basic book on photography and you will learn a lot. Last suggestion is to keep on shooting, you will only get better with time.

Now onto the photos

1. Learn what's interesting, what's the subject here? A doorknob? Maybe if you backed up and took a picture of the whole door it would have been better. It's also a tad blurry.

2. The best of the 3 in my opinion, but there is a lot of wasted space to the right of the machinery. Why not kneel down and get a picture of the inner workings of that machine?

3. I like the subject and the lighting is good. It looks just a tad blurry. This is where you can practice some post editing on your photos. I think this picture would work nicely as a square. So I will demonstrate. Sorry for playing with one of your photos, if it's not ok let me know, but I'd like to show what I'm talking about.

What do you think? In this one there is no wasted space to the left or right of the subject.

I've been obsessed with squares lately. I hope that at least some of this helps.

Peace

Go back to the PaS and learn some elements of basic composition perhaps?

I can attest to that. I've been shooting for a while now, and with around 580 shots under my belt I'm starting to get more complements on my photos. Before it was all "Learn composition", "use the rule of thirds", "stop centering your subjects" etc. Now it more like "That place looks awesome", "nice shots", and "wow, that's SICK!".

Just keep shooting, the more natural it feels to you, the better your pics will become.

I already told ya this, but here goes:

Crop them in a little tighter, i think number one is a really interesting shot though. I really wish number two wasnt cut off.

Shoot everything is the best advice you'll ever get.

live with your camera. I take mine to the grocery store and piss people off by taking pictures of them choosing fruit and shit. I take mine to the clothes store and shoot photos of the lines the racks make. Take it to the library and shoot macros of the books, to the park and shoot photos of people, to school and shoot photos of friends. You get the idea.

LIVE WITH YOUR CAMERA.

Keep it up man.

Felonious is right, live with your camera... I carry mine everywhere. I think your going somewhere that I dig, but I will offer this commentary, about all of them to some degree but especially number 1 go in tighter. I REALLY like the angle and the subject of number 2, but I would have shot it vertical and so the gears came in on the right side of the frame. But that's a personal preference. If you don't mind me asking, where are number 2 and 3 taken? I'm a Nor Cal boy myself and always looking for new sites (if you don't wanna say on the forums, please pm me)! Thanks!

Most people have done the critique, so i will start by saying the first shot, there isnt a ot wrong with it, yeah o.k it isnt uber inspiring or stands out on its own, but, it would look good ina set, exposure is perfect, very nice and bright, up close and you see the detail in the door.

I wont double what other people have said, so, my advice is to use a torch more effectively when light painting, as those shots aint very interesting at all.

Im sure over time you will understand what i mean.
