Finding random drains...

Hey was wondering the best way to find random drains? Someone told me that following hills works but it made it seem just as random as any other search to me...

I live in a city (Toronto) so there's not that many forested areas or anything like that, mostly roads roads roads.

well ive heard that its illegal to build on top of drains in most places so look for a busy shoping center or something and look for a empty field. other than that just randomly look around lakes and stuff like that you will find one sooner or later

In Toronto, when you're starting out, looking for forested areas is the best way to find drains.

Predator's Approach is also a fantastic resource, as are Ninjalicious' own observations and draining stories that are also posted on the Infiltration site.

There are also a couple of more contemporary draining websites that cover Toronto. First of all there is the Angels of the Underground, who have drained extensively, most notably in the Humber River corridor. Second, you can always turn to my website, which covers Toronto as well as a number of other cities in Ontario. You'll find that at www.vanishingpoint.ca.

It's always better to go out and find your own tunnels, of course, but being familiar with these two websites will help you figure out whether you've found something new or a celebrated favourite.

Google earth also helps aswell to find outfalls and such. You can follow creeks and if they abruptly end then you've found a drain.

It should also be mentioned that www.lostrivers.ca is another good resource for anyone looking for drains/sewers in the Toronto area.

My usual approach has been to pick a river or stream and just ride a bike or hike up it. There's much more gratification in finding a drain when you just stumble across it, more than being told where an outfall is and how to get in.

If there's a bike path next to the river that makes life even easier as you can cover tons of ground in a short period of time.

Wading up a river is my personal favourite and besides finding drains it's been great to see the hidden wilderness within Toronto's bustling city. All sorts of wildlife can be found that the average city slicker would never see.

Get out there and explore.

I prefer maps.live.com. Clearer pictures and more up-to-date.

Now well the clearer images and more updated images varies by location. This is the best site to see which images are the best for a particular area. Allows you to use multiple providers.
