Irsik-Doll Grain Elevator

Honestly, I'm not sure if this is a grain elevator owned by the Irsik-Doll company or not. I found absolutely no listing for the place anywhere online.

Even the SanteFe Railroad site that tells what grain elevators it has along it's tracks said nothing more about the place than "unknown grain elevator. Note electrified track to the left which may be the interurban line."

I'm going to assume it's part of Irsik-Doll because it's almost across the street from another Irsik-Doll grain elevator.

It's been abandoned for quite some time. It has a lot of wear and tear for the elements and such.

When I first visited it about 2 years ago there was a very minimal amount of vandalism, and it hadn't been broken into... so i just explored from the outside, and explored the outlying structures.
But later on, apparently some kids had broken in, and even built a few skateboarding ramps in the main warehouse.
Over the last couple of years the graffiti has increased dramatically. I think because of this, the owners dead-bolted the place and boarded up any holes.
Just recently though, somehow an entire outside wall has just disappeared and getting into the place is easier than ever.
Since it's winter though, I haven't explored it much. The last time I went I damn near got frostbite on my toes and fingers.

It's a wonderful place, but not really an incredible amount to explore.

and yes, the 3rd to last picture is me (a couple years ago).

By the way, Kansas is the jackpot of grain elevators. My hometown has the "longest grain elevator in the world."

It's supposedly 1/2 mile long.

When I was about 16 or 17 I got my first digital camera. I'd go around town and find cool things to take pictures of... particularly downtown where all of the old warehouses and abandoned buildings were.
I found this chair laying in the middle of the alley somewhere downtown and thought it was neat enough to take for myself.

I took it with me in the trunk of my car where ever I went, just in case there was a good spot to take a picture of it at.

I once took it to this grain elevator, and these were probably my first ever attempt at actual "artistic" shots.

I actually ended up with a set of paintings that I did of some of the pictures I took with the chair. You can take a look at the paintings if ya want, they're on my website.... hint hint.

Okay, I know no one is replying on this little thread of mine, but either way, i'm going to entertain myself with it.

I've just found out that it is, in fact, not owned by Irsik-Doll (or ever owned by).

I'm not sure who the current owner is, but it apparently used to be run by the Sunglow Food company out of California.

A couple of local BNSF guys came into my work today with a local rail map that they needed revised and copied... and it had "SUNGLOW FOOD" labeled where this grain elevator is.

So yeah. That's a small fragment of this place's story.

some interesting stuff, I like the house shots in the other post better but the last couple of shots here are pretty interesting. Really liked the "day after" shot in the house posts. I think your paintings of the chairs are better than the photos of them.

Wow, a flaming chair. Now that is something I want to see when I explore.

yeah, that was the last time I saw that chair. I left it at the grain elevator and thought I would leave my "chair series" behind.

But I found other chairs... I've continued the series with other chair photographs, and hopefully, I'll paint a few more sometime soon.
