This one always bothered me, I had an apartment that backed up to White Rock Creek and I guess it was from the days of when the creek served as a quarry (the 5th Dallas Courthouse was built of this limestone....till it burned in 1890, it was thought to be fireproof after the other 4 burned down).

Sorry its so small

BTW: Barry your locks were constructed 1900 -1915 and called the McCommas Bluff. I cant imagine paddle boats cruising the Trinity. The locks were constructed due to the unpredictable water levels and the massive snags on the river bottom.

there was a whole series of locks south of town some have been flushed to Galveston by now

wheres that dam on White Rock Creek?

theres plenty on some tributaries like Dixon Branch and Ferris Branch even a 100 yr old low water road xing on Ferris Branch but never saw one on the big creek

So, probably just handled all the camps trash burning needs? Strange that it would be left while I couldn't find any other buildings.

Funny you mentioned document shredders. Being in the banking and credit industry, I see lots of fraud. Being the cheap bastard I am, I didnt have a shredder up until a year ago. I used to burn all my documents and mail in the kitchen sink. I would make sure to vent fan was on and I had water near by.

My wife says I have issues.

now that's a wonderful idea. i haven't really gone out into the "real world" yet. but i'm sure when i'm living on my own that's what i'm going to do with my bills and things.

screw shredders. it's one thing to just shred junk mail and bills, but there has to be a sense of satisfaction, and almost and "up yours" when you burn it all.

i know i'm going to deep with this. i'll be quiet now.

Ok no ideas on the first one, whats wrong with all you awesome explorers!

Heres another one I cant figure out:

http://img293.imag...8skmainbldgyy6.jpg

http://img293.imag...5/1skblowerdc9.jpg

In the second shot the metal housing appears to have been part of a blower, it ducted directly into the furnace area beneath the smoke stack.

Adjacent to the building were some support pillars for something:

http://img293.imag...strawnhengenv9.jpg

I have run out of ideas.

Gigantic forge?

Kiln?

Open air smelter?

One whole side is covered with dirt and gravel the rest is kinda obscured by trees.

I think thats a crematorium

crazy...there used to be a whole pile of probably 120-150 desks in there piled up on the right hand side from that front door.

Marost, is that an old damn of some kind? I'm betting the reason that it just has a big hole in it is because it used to be a damn that a local most likely built. Sometimes they won't tear the whole thing down but just make it to where water can pass through (you know, less debris to pick up).

I'm betting it's a hillbilly tiger pen, or maybe they just kept birds in it.

I was out here and shot this place a few weeks ago (at night of course). I'll post the pic one of these days. It's basically just like 2X's actually, just at night.

well that might explain the missing persons reports in the area!

Ok this thread is fun heres another "structure". I know what the site its on was, I just dont know what this hillbilly tilt wall construction gone horribly wrong was supposed to be:

ps: I studied this for a while but it gave me a headache and was afraid the wind might blow it over! it has walls but no floor were they planning to pour that later? no anchor points at the bottom of the heavy concrete panels? iron pipe cross-braced and wood 2x4s bolted into the concrete wtf??? now that aint up to code...

Those zealots also smoked crack up there so perhaps that might explain it.
