Mare Island - rainy night in the optics building

I need some feedback and critique to improve my technique. Wait, that rhymes. haha. These were shot at night with ambient light from nearby street lights only. Long exposure on a tripod.

Again, I like them, but they don't have the punch or emotional content I'm looking for, somehow, but I can't figure out what they need. Point out what you like or don't like.

very nice work. These have a great feel to em. I like the lines of the second shot but the first ones mood does it for me..

I wouldn't say these are lacking in "punch" or "emotional content", but the composition needs work. In #1 I love the hangars, the light/shadow, the color... If you cut out the whole left third it would work, but then you'd be missing the crane, which is a pretty cool feature. If you could take a few steps back so we can see the whole desk and the whole window, then you might have an especially amazing shot here.

#2 is almost as interesting but has similar compositional issues, that is, a few of the corners and edges are distracting because you have objects cut off.

Looks like a promising location, nice work.

I love the first one. The second one just doesn't do it for me.

I like the first one a lot. Thats a great exposure. Perfect lens for the situation. The shot offers nice depth too with the crane in the background and interesting shadows in foreground. Good work
