People post all sorts of crap on this board, so i thought i would do the same!

I shot this a few months ago, the film isn't that great - but some of my camera work is ok in places.

you'll need the latest quicktime!

i'm gonna be honest, so dont take it as an attack.

Pros: Your continuity is spot on. Good planning.

Cons: 1. Your compositions are boring and predictable. It feels as if the cameraman is fixated on the idea of the sets rather than using the camera to let the audience explore the sets. There is no "free play" within such rigid points of view, which for a viewer is boring. In the 21st century the cinematic image no longer holds a sense of authority, so let the language of your images shine through.

2. Your actors are rigid and seem like they're in constant rehersal. That's ALWAYS a hurdle. Not much you can do about that until you can afford good ones.

3. Your edits could be more interesting as well, but you need a wider variety of interclips to design more interesting edits. Nonetheless, as I mentioned before I feel literally picked up and placed between sets, like a local theater production and I don't believe it works in your favor.

Now this critique is coming from someone who works with video specifically and not for narrative applications. I am a senior in art school working with video as an art form, so i'm going to have some of my own baggage coming into my suggestions. I am however very familiar with narrative *its pushed down our throats here* and the conceptual framework in which a variety of techniques work and don't work are applicable for all lens based media.

I hate all of you

Thanks for the critique. I'll take that on board.

As for points 2 and 3, I wasn't the director or editor, simply the DOP.

I agree it's not a great film, i think the 'alley way scene' works the best.

cheers
