Macros.

I was wondering if anyone would care to take a look at some of the macro shots I've taken and give me some opinions...maybe a few tips? I have quite a few, so I will post them in batches of 6...to keep them manageable and not overwhelm you with a flood of images.

I have no experience with macros, so any advise will be greatly appreciated...

Im not a pro mate, but those dont look to be particularly "macro" to me.

Try and get a little closer esp. with the shots which are the same kind of distance as the cat shot...

I might be wrong though

Well, the macro function on my camera only has a minimum distance of 9 inches. Anything closer than that, and it fuzzes out.

Unrelated to Macroitis, but the composition on #5 is very nice...especially compared to the composition on #4 ;)

the only one that remotely resembles macro is the second shot. normally macro shots are taken around an inch from the subject. you need either those cheap filters or a real macro lens to get shots that close clearly

ill pm you later with examples of macro shots.

Yeah aren't they? He was a stray cat that my mom and I rescued from an abandoned building. Apparently, he had chased a mouse underneath a refridgerator and had gotten stuck behind the compressor. My mom wasn't happy that I was in abandoned buildings again, but if I hadn't been there who knows how long he would have stayed there? He was exhausted, but very happy to be out.
We named him Satin.

You are a good boy and deserving of such a beautiful cat.

PS I have no idea what the first picture is of, but I kinda like it, even though it confuses me, or maybe because it confuses me.

That is a flowstone formation outside of the Anaconda brass plant. Years and years of slightly acidic rain, leached the limestone aggregate out of the concrete supporting the train tracks, and deposited it on the outside of the walls.

yeah i will agree with the others that these are not macro, except for perhaps the second one. unfortunately you need to be much closer to the subject.

These are not macro shots, a macro shot requires that the image be shot at a ratio greater than 1:1, like 2:1 or 5:1. If you by the cheap filters you gonna create problems with aberrations, diffraction and such. To get good macro i recommend either get a bellows extension or to put the money out for an actual macro lens, that is actually capable of doing macro.

In that case, I should stop trying until I can get a better camera that the point and shoot I'm using...Oh well, I tried.
