Wow. Could have sworn we were on the internet.. not the phone.

Still don't like the tone of this sentence ryan. Maybe you should "tone" it down some?

I also don't know why you are so angry over the subject of "taking only pictures and leaving only footprints." It makes good common sense verses the more destructive (though varying degrees) argument which in the long run will just keep UE down. I'm sorry to read that you had problems with some seventh grade friends, but I didn't go to your school or make fun of you. Heck, I've never met you, nor probably never will. You should not take out your frustrations her on the UER, but just leave it at home. I don't know if that's it or if your mad for getting busted while trespassing (was it gentle?) at some poor guys house, which was mentioned in a prior post?

All I'm saying is people should use common sense and some sort of code of ethics while exploring, which should not include destruction and vandalism of the property/site. The explorer known as Ninjalicious (never knew him or know what he's up to these days, seemed to have it right with his philosophy and codes). What is so difficult to understand? It's a great hobby, I'm new to it under the current title (UE), and lets keep it moving in a positive direction.

P.S. Not sure what the significance of a folkloric scandinavian dwarf or giant which inhabits caves or hills has to do with this topic. It came up a few times in reference to me. I hope it's complimentary in nature.

It's too bad he passed away. Sounds like he (Ninjalicious) was a great guy and an awesome pioneer of the urban exploration movement. From the little that I've read, he seemed to have a kind heart, and was truly inquisitive as to the world around him. I'm sure he was not one to advocate the destruction and vandalism of urban sites, such as what some on this forum seem to indicate by saying "do whatever one feels is right." Or by saying it's okay to do anything I feel like doing,... because it's my code or anti-code.

You demand that I get off the boards because you don't see anything that I've done here on the website. Well this thread is in the rookie section, and I'm new to this website. expressing and sharing my ideas amongst those with a common interest is something I'm doing! I feel my views and questions are appropriate to this website, and especially to this section. I've never harmed you, and the only thing that I can think of that irks you is that we have differences in opinion on the ethical aspects of urban exploring. I look forward to learning from those that preceded me, but most likely will not be able to pick up anything of value from you. It's unfortunate, but that is the way of the world. It takes all kinds to make this big blue marble spin around.

It is not my nature to get into a pissing contest with those I feel do it for a living. I will try to abide as close as I can with the "Take only pictures, and leave only footprints" ethic. I will get all the positive experiences that I can from this forum/website, and leave those who wish to blaze a path of destruction to their own fate.

So can you stop hailing Ninj as a god now? Yes, he was a fantastic person in real life, but that doesn't mean his name should be brought out in every sentence in some revered glory.

Basically, there are many people on here who are going to tell you to "shut the fuck up" basically, including myself. This debate has played out dozens of times in countless threads, regardless if it has been in the Rookie Forum or not. The general consensus has been to do whatever you please -- whether that is to take pictures and leave only footprints, or take souvenirs or historical documents and items, or to break in or use a destructive manner to create an easier entrance, and so forth.

People hate being told what to do, or how to do it. And they hate it especially when others censure what they say on the basis that they are "doing it wrong."

I could care less what you think. But to force your beliefs on others is silly and gets you nowhere, as evidenced already.

1. I'm not "hailing" ninjalicious as a god, nor placing him on a pedestal of glory. That's your opinion, which does not make it reality. I've only referenced him as a pioneer.

2. "Basically, there are many people on here who are going to tell you to "shut the fuck up" basically, including myself." Excellent attitude. Very professional in approach. That should help new people to the website feel welcomed.

3. "...to force your beliefs on others is silly and gets you nowhere, as evidenced already." I'm not forcing my belief on others. That's your opinion, which again does not make it reality. I'm only saying that they follow some sort of code, and not necessarily mine.

4. "People hate being told what to do, or how to do it. And they hate it especially when others censure what they say on the basis that they are "doing it wrong."" I'm not telling people what to do, but rather they follow some sort of code or ethic to help improve the hobby and the image. If people are doing something which I feel is wrong, then we part ways.

Looks to me that when someone's opinion is contrary to a few, a campaign of ad hominem and mistruths is launched.

Even though I may use some sort of ethics or rules, if I explore with others who feel completely different, then I don't mind parting ways if the experience is incompatible with me. It's okay with me. I know people have different views.

I would love to hit some sites in Philly. Maybe someday I'll be out that way. It's one city I've yet to visit.

There's no money to be made in UE, and therefore no entrepreneurs*... except for Lord Rick.
He doesn't B&E, tag or smash.... he just explores old graveyards and shit.

1. a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, esp. a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.
2. an employer of productive labor; contractor.
–verb (used with object)
3. to deal with or initiate as an entrepreneur.

4. to act as an entrepreneur.

1. I'm not "hailing" ninjalicious as a god, nor placing him on a pedestal of glory. That's your opinion, which does not make it reality. I've only referenced him as a pioneer.

There are no "pioneers" in this collective interest. If you really believe that, then you would probably believe that George Bush is a pioneer in the tactics of warfare. He was great explorer and writer -- and so are many others. I know of quite a few who have explored abandoned structures since the 1970s... but I don't consider them "pioneers."

2. "Basically, there are many people on here who are going to tell you to "shut the fuck up" basically, including myself." Excellent attitude. Very professional in approach. That should help new people to the website feel welcomed.

Well, when you come on here and use your "I'm hollier then thou" attitude and profess that we are doing it all wrong because our "ethics" bother you, then how else do you think we will respond?

I guess I should write a thesis on why I think UE has become so watered down with all this ethic nonsense. That would be more "professional" in my approach. Good grief.

3. "...to force your beliefs on others is silly and gets you nowhere, as evidenced already." I'm not forcing my belief on others. That's your opinion, which again does not make it reality. I'm only saying that they follow some sort of code, and not necessarily mine.

That's why we need a UEz Club, so we can smack down any fool who dare violates the sacred code of UE ethics! Why do we need to follow some sort of code? Just to please you? Or to be more "professional"?

Maybe we should form a UEz Club like Lord Rick's Paranormal Ghost Society.

Actually, to a lot. But this has been rehashed so many times over that many people just don't really give a flying fuck.

I guess you won't have many exploring friends, because everyone's "ethics" are going to be different. Trying to find your 100% match is like going to Match.com and trying to find a soul mate -- it won't work!

And I agree with dsankt... we need more kittens from Dan. Maybe a pedobear image somewhere.

I think UE has become so watered down with all this ethic nonsense.

Is that really how you want to characterize your position? 'Urban exploration' become watered down with ethics? Three years ago we had far more frequent and violent arguments here about ethics than we do now.

The accepted ethics now by and large is very situational, three or four years ago that wasn't the case at all, it was very much up for debate and there was a very absolutist approach to UE ethics that was expressed by quite a large portion of the early membership of this site.

I'm going to go out on a limb and figure that you're just using the wrong language here, because otherwise you're being completely counterfactual. The fact that basically no one (except maybe blackhawk) is standing up in this thread to watch Lunar's back is solid enough proof that the hard ethics crowd has melted away, at least in this forum.

So what has been watered down now?
