| | | Courtesy update: Prospective Bidders for Deconstruction of Building 802 at the Former Oakland Army Base Outer Harbor Oakland, California This job is out to bid today, December 4th. Which means, this building is not long for this earth. Did I post this one before? Can't remember, but if not, check it out while it lasts, although it looks kinda boring.

| | | Here are a few shots of the base as of May 2007. After the Army moved out of the base, many of the structures continued to be by various organizations. Jacobs Hall, for example, was a guest house during the Army days, but was later used as a homeless shelter and then more recently as a canine training ground for the police. The combination of abandoned personal belongings and the high number of cartridge casings made the building seem like the scene of a massacre. The bowling alley was similarly used as a homeless shelter, but unfortunately nearly all of the bowling lanes, etc, were removed. Most of the barracks slated for demolition were gutted for asbestos removal. A lot of the older (more interesting?) buildings had already been demolished by the time of our visit, but it is still too bad that the rest are on their way out as well.
