Took a small trip today and shot this. It is the Hi-View drive in movie theater, built in the late 40s it closed in 59 and reopened in 61 for one last season. Unfortunately it will see no more movies on its BIG screen.

I've always wanted to go to a drive-in movie...

Neat.

I dunno why but I have always been interested in them. Not too many around anymore. Google it I think there is still one operating in Iowa. This is one of the less complete ones. I rescued this speaker pole from a local one (Jefferson) when it was being demolished.

They're making a comeback. I told you, being 40 rocks. That's the age where your generation has the memories *and* the resources to bring them back to life. Once you get used to the idea that the music of the '80s is now "classic", you can enjoy hearing it all the time -- better than before, in fact, because the duds have been forgotten (although I never did understand the appeal of Hall & Oates).

I still haven't made it to the drive-in in Ennis, but I'm hoping to do so soon. I want to find out what it's like to go to the drive-in and watch a movie. Oh, I went to the drive-in all the time my senior year of high school... but we never seemed to notice that there was a movie going on.

Gee what a great, pole. With a chunk of, concrete, on the end.

What plans do you have for it?

I have it in the garage now with 2 speakers hanging off of it. I wanna rewire it and get it to play off the stereo. And the thing probably weighs 150 pounds.

Yeah a few new ones have opened up, we have been to the new Gemini (there was another Gemini on Forest and 75 here) and its really nice! However, I enjoy the old ones. If you are ever on the other side of Ft. Worth, check out the Brazos in Granbury. And yes the drive in I went to in high school was certainly not for movies. They dont call em passion pits for nothin!

Here is the one I frequented

I've never actually seen a drive-in theater. We had one around here but it's been demolished. Thanks for this, BK!
