I usually listen to something like ok go on the way there and the shins on the way back. i listen to anything while exploring, if it doesn't catch the mood then i hit next.

Driving to the location I listen to Karp more often than other bands. But only driving, once you're out of the vehicle I like to have all my senses working and hearing is one of the most important.

What music do you like to listen to on the way to a location to get in the mood? Also, what music to 'come down' to?

For me, some metal or Primus on the way in, some chill hip-hop or the Eagles on the way out.

I like to listen to the Village People while sipping a nice hot cup of Earl Grey tea on the way to a site. Sometimes I enjoy a bit of Jim Nabors at full volume when I arrive at my destination. Depends on my mood I guess. I wonder if the kind folks on this forum may think I'm a little strange?

I'm going hunting for mysteries. Where's my flashlight?

Fritz Kreisler's “Liebeslied” can calm away nerves and paranoia, Vivaldi's “Winter” to heighten excitement. Or, if I'm feeling particularly adventurous, nothing like Pablo De Sarasate's “Romanza Andaluza.”

On a side note, any sort of music evokes emotion and it's a great way to add to an already fun experience.

P.S. I stray widely in genre, don't be fooled by this meager selection!

one of my favorite artists now is !cube. all of his music is free, Ransumaastaa kahjahtaa is great, though it seems to cut off... I noticed his greatness when walking through school today. http://cube.gfxile.net/ is his site.

The best one, I think, is the soundtrack from the documentary "Echoes of Forgotten Places". Especially, "Drift", written by Robin Guthrie. Can be found on Amazon, btw.

devildriver.

it gets my blood boiling... but I have to watch my driving when I listen to it.

Then something slower or more classical before entering, to calm the nerves and heighten the senses (metal will heighten senses as well, because of the complexity, so long as you don't blow your ears out listening).
