Maybe you could research the history of cement in this region as well, it would be interesting to trace where that came from.

Otherwise it's just a meaningless and rather marginal ruined cylinder.

For a guy that has been here 4 years, and has not even 1 DB entry, it seems pretty rash of you to be going after new folks the way you just did.
I have seen plenty of photos of old "things" posted on this site, such as bicycles, out houses, drains, etc... I think this is the first time that I have EVER seen anyone go to the extent you have, for no reasons what so ever.
It's some pictures of a Silo that he wanted to share. Why does it have to be any more than that? If you want a bloody history on it, go to the library!

Here's the problem. We all apparently like old things, but we don't want to know where they came from, why they're there now, where they're going. Or if we do want to know it personally, we don't think anyone else wants to know. So even if we do the research, we don't post it here. And then we have people like you reinforcing this situation, and people like happiedaze saying it would be too much trouble for her to read even if someone would be bothered to research it and post it.

No, all we want to do is look at anonymous pictures of old things, stripped of their place, of their history, of the experiences of the people who built them, who lived in them, who worked in them. We want to enjoy the old things completely oblivious to what and where they are, how they were made, how they came to be abandoned or disused, and what they might have meant for the people they actually mattered to.

We're all really fucking stupid.

Ok buddy, I know a ton of history on that place as I grew up there but I chose not to disclose it as I was informed not to (for a good reason). I understand your point but if someone wants to share something then let them.....I mean why not. Its a freaking silo.....it held wheat for the family that lived on the farm....no reason to bite anyone's head off.

I gave enough info that anyone in THIS area would know where it was and who it belonged to.

Does this say anything....

I care about the history of the things I explore, but come on man, ITS A SILO!!! If you had looked at any other thread that I have posted in the past, you would see that I do the research on places that are worthy of having a history posted. I'm not saying that this silo is not worthy of a history, but sometimes you just want to make a thread to share some pictures of something you saw that isn't really that big of a deal, but still something you found interesting and writing a 5 page essay on the history of where the cement came from can get quite boring.

Read any of my posts about what I think exploring is about and you will see I feel the same way you do about the history of these abandonments.

I wasn't trying to say that reading the history is too much trouble but I was trying to make the point that you took it to an extreme that wasn't necessary.

I think maybe you're tired of people posting really interesting things with no history and you took it out on BustedKnuckle. I can understand the frustration of not truly appreciating the history of places that some members here on UER post and being frustrated about them not providing the full story, but why the Hell would you choose a thread on an old grain silo to express it? Go find some old hospital or orphanage that someone doesn't appricate and bust their balls.

And for "Where its going" you need to call the public storage folks that own the property.....Im sure they will be glad to tell you, because I have no idea on that one.

This is the end of it! Kowalski, if you want to be a post critic you need to go to your own region to do that. Anyone around the globe is welcome to look into any region and see what's being posted. Even to offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is ok.

But one thing is for sure - as long as I'm the moderator of the south region, there will be no trolling and piss fight starting by anyone, especially toward new people who are just getting started.

Like I said, if you want to look in, see what's going on, make a comment pro or con, that's fine. But don't come in here with OBVIOUS intent of starting a piss fight. I don't mind spending a little time deleting posts and threads if I have to.

Ah, that wasn't my intent. My intent was to hopefully learn more about the silo. My apologies if you have been confused.

Well, I'll confess... one of my favorite pages of uer.ca is this one. I often wondered, though, what it would be like to actually witness the downhill journey into Banland.

Here's my "Living Will (Online Forum Version)": Should my posts degenerate into incomprehensible ramblings and/or random flameage, I hereby request that somebody pull the damned plug before I make a total jerk of myself.

If it wasn't your intent, you might want to go back and re-read your initial post. It is very rash, and if that wasn't your intention, you might want to change your wording next time.

Can you tell us something about the economic/agricultural history of this area, about the social history of this farm, or about the linkages in either of these dimensions between this farm and places further afield?

Rash?

Do I stutter? Here is the definition to help you out.

RASH
–adjective -er, -est.
1. acting or tending to act too hastily or without due consideration.

Sounds pretty accurate to the way you were treating a new member to me?

If you want to post pictures of a location, the history, features, etc. we have a database for that. If you want to casually share some cool pictures of a location with friends we have a forum. When I browse through the forums I don't expect to get the full history and run down on every picture that is posted. Just my two cents...

Nice pictures Bustedknuckle. Thanks for sharing and keep up the awesome finds!

Well said. Kowalski, I'm not going to talk about it anymore. Flame wars like this are not welcome in this region. Go home. No need to apologize, no need to do anything except drop it and leave it alone.
