Did you shoot in black and white on your camera, or do a conversion in photoshop? I can't see your exif info, so I can't tell. If you did a BW conversion though, it could be a lot better.

I like the second one, it seems to be a tad out of focus though.

Same with the third. I like them, they're just a little out of focus.

The last one is overexposed.

Based on the limited exif info this shitty program I'm using currently, I'd say take your camera off auto mode. Play with it as much as you can, practice practice practice.

And I'm not trying to sound condescending, if that's the way it came out. I'm still learning myself, commenting on what I know. If it does sound harsh, I apologize, I just hate it when I ask for criticism and everyone just says "great shots!!!!11!!" when they could be a shitton better.

I did a conversions. Im going to work with it more, but it was a quick to show what the later three were off

I didnt have much time because the nice lady from the government agency only gave me 5 mins to shoot

I was using my older camera and i didnt have time to switch camera on the tripod

I shot them with

Fuji Finepix S3100 4.0 mp Polarizing filter
Contrast adjusted in photoshop 7
Black and white done on a free black and white program

Love the colors in # 2... definitely my favorite one

your decay are not bad at all, the b&w shot didn't really work for me though, seems dark to me and lacking enough detail.

I think the subject has some real potential. In the B&W image, the overall feel is great, but the composition is mediocre... I would try to find some way of contrasting the strong diagonals of the bridge with the strong horizontals of the road, with a minimum of interference from trees. B&W is always best when the lines are your focus.

The one strong aspect of the other shots is clearest in #2... That is, the bar across the top and the diagonal one above it have similar textures of peeling paint on rust, but two different colors of paint each on a different color of rust.... I love this! But the composition doesn't work at all. Everything points my eye up into the top left, and nothing brings it back in. You probably need to back up just a little bit, so some other, secondary point of focus can counterbalance the bolt head. But not quite as far back as #4, because in that one we lose the detail of the rust and paint texture, and all those the strong lines and all that green grass distract from what's most interesting.

So in short, I would do a lot more work on these, but I see a lot of potential! Forgive me if I'm jumping to conclusions, but my guess would be that you have a good natural eye but haven't really studied the basic principles of composition much... If that's correct, there are tons of decent websites and books to check out.
